About the School
Welcome to the English Language Centre at the University of Victoria! A clean, safe, and scenic place! Victoria is the capital of British Columbia, located on the western Pacific coast at the southern tip of Vancouver Island. Victoria ranks near the top of international travel magazines' must-visit destinations every year, and its stunning coastal scenery, culture, and friendly atmosphere attract over 1 million visitors annually. All university facilities and a convenient university campus await you. There is no better place to live and study English. The English Language Centre (ELC) at the University of Victoria is one of the largest language schools in Canada, and offers intensive language programs that start at the beginning of every month. Students can choose from a variety of ELC programs to suit their individual schedules, and can easily study English for as long as they wish, whether 1 month, 6 months, 1 year, or more. Students experience 20 to 30 hours of regular classes per week, after-class activities, and a variety of monthly social events led by Cultural Assistant Staff. Students who complete the program receive a certificate and a transcript. The University of Victoria offers students excellent experiences for improving their English. ELC students can observe classes throughout the campus, enjoy unlimited computer use, and use and take part in the language lab, library, and a variety of recreation facilities, enjoying themselves as part of the student community.
