About the School
Worldwide School of English (hereinafter "Worldwide") is an English school located in central Auckland. We offer 7 General English courses (minimum age 16), with a maximum of 14 students per class. Our curriculum includes the BEC Business English course, Cambridge FCE/CAE, IELTS, and TOEIC Exam Preparation classes. We also run a Tour Group Programme for students under 16, as well as programmes for under-16s in cooperation with local public schools. All learning materials are provided to students free of charge. We do not rely on a single textbook; we have developed a special curriculum that uses a variety of internationally recognized textbooks for each level, so in addition to textbooks we use videos, magazines, tapes, computer programs, newspapers, and various materials developed in-house by Worldwide. Afternoon General English classes place much more emphasis on building fluency than morning classes. There is a great deal of group and class discussion on a variety of interesting topics, as well as practice activities to improve listening skills for everyday English. Every Friday afternoon, students are free to choose from a free movie in Worldwide's cinema, a conversation class, IELTS, or other activities. Worldwide's teachers are native English speakers from New Zealand, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and South Africa. At our school you can learn and speak English together with international students from about 30 countries. Worldwide offers a wonderful opportunity to truly learn and experience international English. Talking and interacting with students from the Czech Republic, Vietnam, Brazil, China, Japan, Germany, and Colombia will help your English improve even further. Worldwide also offers farm experience and internship programmes, as well as courses that let you enjoy summer sports such as diving, sailing, and surfing alongside your English studies. So that you can travel while you study, we offer a "Combo Course" in cooperation with Worldwide's sister schools in Napier, Christchurch, and Queenstown. A variety of after-school programmes and weekend trips are also arranged. Worldwide is registered with NZQA. We have two computer rooms with free email and internet access along with wireless internet Hotspot, a cinema room, a library, a language lab with computers equipped with English software and videos and with tape scripts, and a Self Access Area/facility for independent study. We also have a recreation room where you can enjoy Sky TV, table tennis, and games, a student lounge with comfortable chairs and a free phone, and a kitchen where coffee and tea are available free of charge. Counselors who speak students' native languages, airport pick-up, and advice and placement services for further study are provided free of charge to Worldwide students. Worldwide offers homestays with New Zealand families, and we carefully screen and select our homestay families. In addition, we operate Worldwide House, a Worldwide residence in the Newmarket area, where you can also experience communal living with students from many countries.
School Features
- On the first day of school, students take a placement test and are assigned to the level best suited to their English ability based on their score. Of course, students move up to a higher level during the course as their skills improve, and each class averages 8 students, a small, select group, so the teacher can give personal attention to each individual. Course textbooks are provided free of charge to all students, and lessons are made interesting through a variety of officially recognized textbooks for each level, together with videos, magazines, listening tapes, computer programs, and various materials from newspapers.
