About the School
Regent Pacific College is the world's first resort-style language school, located in Mactan, Cebu, 15 minutes from the Philippine international airport. Near the school there are conveniences such as department stores, shopping malls and PC rooms, as well as top resort destinations including the world-famous chain hotels Shangri-La, Waterfront Hotel, Plantation Bay Hotel, Hassan Beach Resort and White Sands Beach Resort, and international colleges for foreigners are located nearby, including the International Academy of Film and Television, an international film and drama production school. [Scale and Facilities] The dormitory currently accommodates 160 people on a twin-room basis, and there are currently about 120 students. By the summer vacation season, dormitory capacity is expected to reach about 260 people on a twin-room basis. Both single and twin rooms are currently open for registration. The school is equipped to accommodate 450 people on a 6500-pyeong site along the beach. The dormitory currently accommodates 160 people on a twin-room basis, and there are currently about 120 students. By the summer vacation season, dormitory capacity is expected to reach about 260 people on a twin-room basis. Regent Pacific College is the world's first resort-style language school, offering air-conditioned single and twin hotel-style dormitories, a school cafeteria serving three meals a day (breakfast: American style; lunch/dinner: Korean and Japanese style), a snack shop, a large 35 m swimming pool built along the beach, a gym, an aerobics room, a basketball court, a jogging track, a lounge, a 2000-pyeong garden, classrooms for 450 people fully equipped with air conditioning and soundproofing, an audiovisual room and cinema, a multimedia room for individual English study, a computer and internet room, a group lecture hall, a library, a drinking-water purification plant, a school infirmary and more. [Student Age Range and Nationality Ratio] The students studying at Regent Pacific College are general students aged 11 to 53 and professionals working in business settings such as government offices, banks and corporations, and they form a multinational student body from Japan, Korea, Southeast Asian countries, Taiwan, China and elsewhere. So even after class, you can talk with international students in the dormitory, naturally using the English you learned in class while also experiencing their cultures. Instructors are on campus 24 hours a day, and because students have responded well, there are plans to increase the number of resident instructors further. Housing for instructors is currently being built, and as soon as it is completed (around April to May 2006), about 40 instructors are planned to reside on campus. [Instructor Level and Nationality Ratio] Our faculty hold the PRC (Licensure Examination for Teachers) English teaching license and are graduates in English education from teachers' colleges at prestigious Philippine universities with many years of English teaching experience. Having passed through fierce competition, they are top-level instructors whose fluent English is indistinguishable from that of native teachers. Alongside them, native-speaker instructors from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia with long English teaching experience in TESOL, TESL and TEFL, including a Canadian instructor who graduated from the medical school of the University of Oxford in the UK and retired after working as chief physician at an Australian government hospital, will be responsible for students' English education. [Classes] Classes total 11 hours: the regular course is 6 hours (1-on-1 = 2 hours / 1-on-4 = 2 hours / 1-on-8 = 2 hours), plus 5 hours of elective classes. The elective classes consist of TOEIC 2 hours / Screen 1 hour / Swimming 1 hour / Golf 1 hour, and all are offered free of charge. The free swimming lessons and on-campus golf lessons are especially popular, and participation in TOEIC and TOEFL classes is high. Spartan-style restrictions apply to entering and leaving the campus. Going out is not allowed on weekdays until 7:00 and after 11:00; going out is free on weekends.
