Surroundings

Brighton is a dynamic city on England's south coast. Only an hour from London, it has a distinct identity of its own. Since being developed as a resort by Victorian royalty, it has been a favorite destination of Britain's elite. Today the city welcomes vacationing celebrities, students from its three local universities, London trendsetters, and bohemian artists, and the number of surfers visiting is growing by the day. Brighton's greatest attraction is its beaches, some of which are among the best in all of Britain. Leave the Brighton language school and head for the city's pier, which stretches more than 500 meters out from the shore and is lined with amusement rides, shops, and restaurants. Beyond the coastline, Brighton's urban personality reveals itself. Stroll the quaint, cobbled streets of The Lanes and the trendy shopping district, which is better than anywhere else in Brighton. After dark, dance all night to the music of one of the famous DJs who frequent the city and experience Brighton's legendary nightlife. If you want to go sightseeing, visit the Royal Pavilion, a grand residence that looks more like the Taj Mahal than Westminster Abbey.
