About the School
Harrow School is one of the UK's outstanding boys' boarding secondary schools. It attracts great interest from parents because of the excellent educational opportunities it offers both inside and outside the classroom. Since its founding in 1572, it has grown into one of the UK's prestigious secondary schools, and educational opportunities are also offered to gifted students from many countries around the world.
School Features
- Why Harrow? 1. We are an all-boys school with 800 pupils. Many of the parents who choose Harrow do so because they believe in the virtues of single-sex education. 2. The evidence of independent value-added analysis is that we achieve better results for our pupils - whether bright or only average - than other similar schools. 3. We are one of a very small number of full boarding schools that does not take day pupils or weekly boarders. This means that 100% of our energy can be devoted to making boarding a success. We avoid the tensions which arise when some pupils go home at the end of the day while others do not. All teachers live in the school and it is this which makes possible the outstanding diversity of worthwhile activities on offer in the evenings and weekends. 4. We have three resident staff in every boarding house - the House Master, House Tutor and Matron. This enables us to give the best level of pastoral care. 5. We do not have dormitories. 6. We place a particular emphasis on the development of qualities of leadership and teamwork, offering internal scholarships to boys who demonstrate potential in this respect. 7. We have outstanding facilities, including one of the best school golf courses, a farm, the best school theatre in the UK and the latest IT provision. 8. We have a rich heritage and customs: pupils develop a keen sense of the past and what we owe to it. 9. We are close to the theatres and other cultural opportunities of central London while living in a place which has the atmosphere of a rural village. 10. Our pupils come from a very wide catchment area.
