Austin Peay State University

Austin Peay State University (APSU) offers lifelong learning programs including career development, customized training, ESL, online programs, and small business support. The Intensive English Program, an ESL program, is not a credit-bearing course, but students receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and a transcript is issued. Class sizes are kept small to give students more attention and the opportunity to improve their learning ability. Depending on enrollment, classes are divided into various levels such as beginner, intermediate, and advanced. The teachers have taught English in the United States and abroad, most hold a master's degree in English or education, and have extensive experience teaching English to students whose native language is not English. Students can use the university's computer labs to complete assignments, and F-1 students who pay the optional Program Services Fee (PSF) receive an APSU student ID card and can freely use university facilities such as the gymnasium and recreation center. Our students experience American culture in various ways every day. In addition, the school arranges at least one cultural activity trip each semester. So far, students have visited the Nashville Zoo, the Country Music Hall of Fame, Graceland (in Memphis TN), and various sights showcasing the history of Clarksville. ESL students also have the opportunity to take part in campus activities offered by APSU's Office of International Education and the International Student Organization (ISO). F-1 Full-Time Students Our diverse and intensive English program is designed for international students who wish to enter APSU or other universities. Students must enroll in a full-time (18 hours per week) course and submit a high school or university transcript. Conversation Partners Conversation partners are APSU volunteers who help international students practice English by taking part in various campus activities and events and having natural conversations.
