Central Piedmont Community College

CPCC's ESL program is a credit-bearing program that prepares students from countries where English is not the native language to successfully enter US universities and succeed in professional settings. Class activities provide academic reading, grammar, listening, speaking and writing, as well as practice and knowledge on specific topics. Students learn to give individual and group presentations, write research reports, and take notes while listening to lectures. The school also pays particular attention to students' cultural awareness and academic environment. Because the core program offers 4 levels in 4 skill areas, a student's level may differ in each of the 4 areas. In addition, Special Topic classes are offered, teaching English for practical use through an academic approach.
