About the School
EELI is a language and cultural bridge program for international students who have not yet developed the English language skills necessary for university study in the US. Located at Eastern Kentucky University, situated in the heart of Kentucky’s bluegrass region, EELI is dedicated to preparing students for the challenge of higher education coursework in English. The beautiful landscape and friendly, small town atmosphere create a welcoming and safe environment perfect for study. Located within a day’s travel to numerous metropolitan areas such as Chicago, Indianapolis, Atlanta, Nashville, and Washington, DC, students can experience the varieties of American culture while taking advantage of the security and hospitality of a small town. EELI is located on the approximately 560-acre campus of Eastern Kentucky University, which is in the city of Richmond, Kentucky. Richmond is a city of about 29,000 residents and is known for its safety and its kind, friendly residents. Richmond's downtown, with more than 100 historic buildings, is one of the best-restored 19th-century commercial districts in Kentucky, and is loved by visitors and locals alike as a pleasant leisure space with unique jewelry shops, antique stores, clothing stores, restaurants and more. There are also many places for outdoor recreation such as horseback riding, golf and camping. In addition, it is about 20 minutes by car from Lexington, one of Kentucky's major cities, and about 90 minutes by car from Louisville, another major Kentucky city, and Cincinnati, Ohio.
