About the School
Our ESL program is part of Harper College, a large community college. Some of our students come to the program only to study English while others take more courses at Harper after completing the ESL program. Harper’s ESL students come from more than 50 different countries and speak many different languages. Our program has a mix of resident students who have moved to the area to live, students who are in the United States on a temporary work assignment, and international students coming on F-1 visas. In addition, we have students of all ages. Some students start classes here after finishing high school, and we have many other students that are in their mid-twenties and older. Our program offers classes for all levels, from students who are beginners to those at advanced levels; we also have several types of classes, including writing, reading, grammar, and listening and speaking. In most classes, there are 10 to 20 students. Students are encouraged to participate and ask questions. Students report being very satisfied with their ESL classes at Harper, and many have taken our classes because of the strong recommendations of friends. The professional teachers, great facilities, sense of community, and low cost are some of the features of our program that students like.
