About the School
The English Language Program (ELP) provides challenging language instruction that prepares students to succeed in their studies and at work. Students who meet Kansas State University's academic requirements can gain "conditional admission" to Kansas State University by completing the ELP advanced course. ELP is proud to be one of the 68 members of UCIEP, a consortium of intensive English programs at colleges and universities. Like other UCIEP programs, ELP offers students the best English instruction and fully supports its instructors in using the latest teaching methods to help students reach their full potential. Classes are small (6-15 students), with 24 hours per week across 4 levels. There is a conversation partner program, video lessons, and an in-house TOEFL administered each term. ELP instructors encourage every student to take an active part in class, and they take an interest in students' academic and personal concerns and try to help. ELP students can use all campus facilities and services, including a large library with Internet access, a student recreation center with an Olympic-size indoor swimming pool, an international student center, and a health center. Credit-bearing courses: With the university's approval, classes taken in the English program may be recognized as credit when you enter the university. Students' countries of origin: Every year, more than 1,200 students from over 100 countries come to ELP. Students from Asia are the largest group at 54%, followed by South America at 11%, the Middle East at 10%, Europe at 9%, and other regions at 16%. Instructor qualifications: All ELP instructors hold a master's degree in teaching English as a second language or a doctorate in a related field. Each instructor has an average of more than 15 years of teaching experience. Many ELP teachers have lived and taught abroad in places such as Africa, Japan and Greece. ELP teachers also pay careful attention to what international students need and help them adapt well to American culture. Accommodation: ELP offers students on-campus dormitories. Students living in campus dormitories enjoy being close to classrooms, having easy access to various campus events, and interacting with American and other international students. Housing is limited, so it is best to apply as early as possible. The school introduces off-campus apartments, but students must make all housing arrangements on their own.
