Mohawk Valley Community College

The ESL program was established to help people whose native language is not English improve their English. Its main audience is students who wish to study for a degree or certificate at the college and people who wish to work in English-speaking work environments. Students' English ability is assessed through a level test, and they are placed in a class suited to their level. Once you begin the program, moving up a level is possible depending on each student's ability, when you have passed all the standards required by the previous level. If, after completing Level 4, the highest ESL level, you wish to study further or you need full-time student status for your visa, you must gain approval to apply to a degree or certificate program. In this way, students can complete the ESL program while taking courses in their major.
