About the School

The English Language Institute (ELI) offers an intensive English language program designed for students who wish to enter American universities. The program focuses on reading, writing, speaking, and listening, and students receive high-quality instruction from experienced teachers in small classes. The program consists of four terms of 7 weeks each, plus a 7-week summer term. It is divided into three levels: lower-intermediate, intermediate, and advanced; no beginning course is offered. A minimum TOEFL score of 400 is required for admission to the ELI, and students in the Advanced course may audit university classes. ELI students may use the university dormitories, but priority is given to students staying from September through May. They are generally roommates with American students, and adult students aged 21 or older may also choose options such as a homestay or an apartment. In that case, the ELI provides only the homestay.

School Features

  • ELI students can use all university facilities and student clubs. Pacific University has international students from an average of 15 countries and students from about 30 U.S. states.
