About the School
The Haggerty English Language Program (HELP) provides English instruction to non-native speakers who have graduated from high school. Our program consists of 4 levels and starts in late August, late January and July. As part of SUNY-New Paltz, our students are privileged to use all of the campus's university facilities. Students admitted to degree programs can take regular courses while taking the top two ESL levels. SUNY-New Paltz offers conditional admission.

Cultural activities and field trips are designed to enrich the student's American experience. Some recent field trips: to New York city, to visit a working farm and pick apples, and hiking in the nearby mountains.
Surroundings
The town of New Paltz, where the university is located, lies about 120 kilometers north of New York City along the Hudson River, and is about 90 minutes from Manhattan by train. New Paltz is a small town of about 10,000 people with many diverse cafes and shops. With the university at its center, it is an attractive town that radiates a quiet yet scholarly atmosphere. It is also home to the largest nature preserve in New York State, ideal for skiing, rock climbing and hiking, and has beautiful scenery in which hotels built in 1860 blend harmoniously with the natural landscape. Manhattan is also easily accessible by train or bus, making it a good fit for students seeking both typical city life and a stable, quiet living environment.
