Temple University

Temple University's Intensive English Language Program (IELP) is located on a beautiful campus in Philadelphia, the historic city of Pennsylvania. The IELP offers ESL courses for students from non-English-speaking countries who wish to improve their English for entering a U.S. university, for employment, or for daily life. IELP instructors and staff understand that each learner has specific goals for learning English, and that many special programs must be developed to meet them. ㆍ For students interested in improving basic English, we offer small classes with finely divided levels. All language skill areas are taught, and electives are available, with Business English being the most popular. ㆍ For international students who wish to enter a U.S. university and need a higher level of English proficiency, we recommend enrolling in the IELP Excel program, which provides a gateway to Temple University. These students can study the intensive English course while at the same time taking regular Temple University programs for credit. ㆍ Teaching Assistants from countries where English is not the native language are encouraged to take the International Teaching Assistant (ITA) program, which trains and evaluates all international instructors who require English certification. ㆍ Students enrolled in the IELP have the opportunity to participate in the Conversation Partners Program, which connects IELP students with conversation partners from Temple University.
