About the School

Established in 1978, the Tutorium English program is located on the UIC campus, one mile west of downtown Chicago, and improves students' English learning ability by motivating them and sparking their interest in language learning. The academic year has 3 terms and is divided into 6 levels. Classes are small, with 20-25 hours per week. The program provides a high standard of English education to students who wish to advance to universities in the United States and to students who wish to improve their English for professional purposes. Tutorium students will take challenging classes that encourage active participation in lessons and conversation. Tutorium's professional teaching staff uses the most up-to-date teaching methods to give students the greatest possible learning benefit. In addition, the language lab and the computer lab with Internet access are always open to students, further enhancing their learning. Outstanding Tutorium students have the opportunity to audit regular university classes. The instructors strive to help students with academic, immigration, and cultural issues. Tutorium students can also attend seminars on preparing for admission to U.S. universities. Nationality Ratio: Tutorium students represent more than 30 countries. The nationalities that have recently made up the largest share of students are Korea, Poland, Thailand, Mexico, China, Colombia, Japan, Peru, and Ecuador. Instructor Qualifications: Tutorium's instructors and staff are experienced professionals who hold degrees, have teaching experience abroad, and have foreign language skills. All instructors and faculty respond sensitively to the needs of international students and are also good advisors who help with students' requests and give advice on problems. Accommodation: Tutorium offers students both on-campus and off-campus residence halls. Students living in the campus residence halls are close to the classrooms, can easily take part in various campus events, and can interact with American and other international students. Students living in off-campus residence halls can interact more actively with the community outside campus and can live more independently. Accommodation is limited, so it is best to apply as early as possible. The school can introduce apartments off campus, but students must make all accommodation arrangements on their own. For more detailed information about accommodation, please contact the school directly using the Contact Address.
