About the School
The English Language Center (ELC), an institute affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts, prepares students to use English effectively in all areas, whether academic, professional, or everyday. This program is available only to students who have been admitted to UNLV. Preparing Students The ELC has provided effective language training for international students, scholars, and professionals for more than 30 years. To give students the most effective English education, the language program is regularly evaluated and updated. The promise of the ELC, and the success of our program, is that our students finish their English studies, pass English proficiency tests, and go on to study their majors. Through detailed courses developed under a broad educational technology plan, we offer all students the language courses they need, along with opportunities for close interaction between instructors and students. Students can receive free private tutoring, as well as counseling and job opportunities on campus. Dedicated Faculty Our dedicated instructors all hold advanced degrees required for teaching English and have extensive experience with international students. Our faculty and staff create a comfortable learning environment for students and provide individual tutoring in addition to regular classes. Convenient Schedules Students can find the most convenient time from the ELC programs offered throughout the year. Classes are available in the morning and afternoon, in both short-term and regular formats. Special programs for groups with individual needs can start at any time, and summer programs are offered at affordable tuition. American Cultural Experience Our international students receive thorough preparation in American culture through field trips such as visits to museums, performances, or the Red Rock conservation area, and have opportunities to interact with faculty and other native speakers through conversation clubs.
