About the School
Since 1978, the English Language Training Institute (ELTI) has been providing international students with an excellent English education program in a safe and friendly learning environment. ELTI strives to provide the essential preparation students need to enter US universities and to earn their degrees successfully. ELTI's friendly and professional faculty and staff warmly welcome students to UNC Charlotte and are committed to standing by students whenever they need help. ELTI students can use all the facilities and services of the UNC Charlotte campus. The ELTI program, which has 8 levels, helps non-native English speakers prepare for admission to US universities or improve their professional English skills. Students at around levels 6 and 7 can take university classes together with regular students, and students at around level 8 will have the skills to prepare for graduate school in the US. Advanced students can prepare for the TOEFL exam and for university admission. Classes run 20 hours per week, 5 days a week. Each semester is 12 weeks, and all ELTI students can use all the facilities on campus. Credit-bearing courses: Advanced-level students have the opportunity to take regular university classes alongside their ELTI classes. Students' countries of origin: Each year, about 300 students from more than 20 countries come to ELTI. 63% of ELTI students are from Asia, and the rest are 22% from South America, 10% from the Middle East, 4% from Africa, and 1% from Europe. Instructor qualifications: All ELTI instructors are native English speakers who are highly educated and have extensive experience teaching English as a second language in the US and abroad. The faculty and instructors all have diverse experience and are dedicated to helping students adjust well to their new environment. Accommodation: ELTI offers students various types of on-campus accommodation, including dormitories and on-campus apartments. Students living in campus dormitories are close to classrooms, can easily take part in various campus events, and can interact with American and other international students. Students not living in the dormitories can use apartment-style accommodation within easy walking or bus distance of campus. Apartments allow for more independent living. Accommodation is limited, so it is best to apply as early as possible. For more detailed information about accommodation, please contact the school directly using the Contact Address.
