About the School
Founded in 1978, the Culture and Intensive English Program (CIEP) is an intensive English program for students whose native language is not English. It aims to improve English proficiency while introducing North American culture. The program consists of 7 levels and is taught in small, select classes. Students who fully complete the program are awarded a Certificate. There are also supplementary classes such as a TOEFL preparation class, a conversation partner program to improve students' speaking skills, and computer and language labs. CIEP students come from many countries. Some stay on at the University of Northern Iowa or another school to continue their studies, while others return to their home countries. Students gather from all over the world, including Europe, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Taiwan, China, South Korea and Japan. By region, international students are 41% Asian, 24% Middle Eastern, 15% South American and 9% European. About 80% of students go on to universities in the United States, and about 45% advance to UNI. All senior CIEP teachers have spent many years in English education. The senior teachers earned their master's and bachelor's degrees at leading universities such as the University of Northern Iowa, the University of Illinois and Cornell College. Most CIEP teachers have lived, studied or taught abroad, so they understand international students' concerns and feelings well. A high-caliber, professional faculty and a quiet, safe campus create a good learning atmosphere for students. CIEP helps students with on-campus dormitory placement. Most CIEP students share a room with native English-speaking students in the school dormitory. Because dormitory space is limited, it is best to settle your accommodation as early as possible. The school can also introduce off-campus apartments, but students must make their own personal arrangements. For other matters, please contact the school directly using the Contact Address.
