About the School
The English Language Institute, part of The University of Texas at El Paso, is designed to help students improve their skills in speaking, reading and writing. The program aims to prepare students to succeed in higher-level studies at American educational institutions and to earn TOEFL scores. In addition, it does its best to raise student satisfaction by enabling students to use English in business and the workplace and to communicate smoothly, both socially and culturally, with people from English-speaking countries. Intensive morning program: In the spring and fall semesters, the 8-week course (1 session) is offered as two sessions, helping students learn English in as short a time as possible. In summer, an ultra-intensive English course is offered in a 10-week session, with instructional materials covering one semester, that is, 16 weeks. In the spring and fall semesters, classes meet Monday through Thursday for 5 hours a day, and in the summer semester they run Monday through Friday. Classes center on Listening comprehension, reading/writing, grammar, conversation, and study of American culture patterns. TOEFL Preparation: The TOEFL preparation course is offered to students at the Advanced level. Classes focus intensively on the function and use of grammar, vocabulary building, listening skills, syntax analysis and reading comprehension training. Students also learn test-taking skills and strategies to achieve a high TOEFL score. Students can take a mock TOEFL exam similar to the real TOEFL every week, and can also take the TOEFL on the university campus several times a year.
