The English Language Institute (ELI), established in 1982, prepares students to enter regular degree programs by acquiring academic English, and offers opportunities to learn the functional use of English. The ELI has a state-of-the-art audio lab and an active faculty. Upon completing this program, students will attain an English level that further improves their opportunities for advancement. The UTPA English Language Institute (ELI), established in 1982, prepares students entering academically oriented English learning programs and offers all students the opportunity to learn the functional use of English. ELI Mission The mission of the ELI is to provide English instruction to people whose native language is not English. It improves ESL skills so that students can participate well in the American cultural environment, and thoroughly prepares students who wish to earn a degree at a U.S. university for academic English. Location The ELI is located in Edinburg, Texas, about 10 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border. Faculty ・ Bachelor's or master's degree in English education or related fields ・ 3 to 20 years of teaching experience in the U.S. and abroad
