About the School
The ESL program is held in the Liberal Arts (LA) Building at the center of the university campus. The LA Building is a modern building made up of classrooms fully equipped with media facilities and computer labs. It is located right next to the university library, which consists of study rooms, a cafe, and a media center for students' learning. ESL students can use the university's facilities just like regular degree students. General facilities include the library, computer labs, a bus pass, the campus bookstore, and athletic facilities. Curriculum: The UVU ESL program consists of 5 levels. All classes focus on improving the English skills needed for successful university life in the United States, and each level takes about 15 weeks per semester. If you start from the lowest level, you will need to study for five semesters, and depending on your starting level, the time needed to complete the entire program may be shorter. All ESL program courses are recorded on your transcript together with your GPA. Levels 2 through 4 earn academic credit, and Level 4 students can register for up to 18 credits toward the foreign language requirement for an associate's or bachelor's degree. In addition, a TOEFL preparation class is offered for Level 4 students to help those who wish to transfer to other universities. If you would like to take the TOEFL course, you must consult with an ESL advisor.
