About the School

The IALC (Intensive American Language Center), offered by the International Programs at Washington State University, is a high-quality intensive ESL program. Started in 1984, the program runs as an 8-week course and is offered 5 times a year. Classes are organized into 6 levels in total, with 21-24 hours of instruction per week. The curriculum consists of academically focused reading/writing, listening/speaking and grammar instruction. Students can also choose the subjects they want according to their academic interests or cultural interests. The IALC is affiliated with Washington State University. Therefore, for students who wish to enter WSU, completing Level 5 or higher of this program waives the TOEFL requirement for undergraduate admission, and completing Level 6 or higher waives the TOEFL requirement for graduate school admission. (WSU also considers an applicant's previous grades when evaluating admission.) The IALC center, established for international students, offers the best opportunity, especially for students who aim to improve quickly, with top instructors using the latest teaching methods and learning materials.
