ELICOS Programs GCIT offers English courses specialising in business language and skills, English language courses for Australian migrants and advanced level specialist English language courses for entry to higher education, study and work programs. English Language Intensive Courses (ELICOS) are programs for those who intend to learn English either for personal improvement, and/or further study. We currently offer 5 levels of General English, English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Preparation Course. Classes and levels are:

ㆍBeginner/Elementary - Duration: 10 weeks intensive study

ㆍLower Intermediate - Duration: 10 weeks intensive study

ㆍIntermediate - Duration: 10 weeks intensive study

ㆍUpper Intermediate - Duration: 10 weeks intensive study

ㆍAdvanced - Duration: 10 weeks intensive study Entry requirements • Students under 18 years of age should refer to the International Student Handbook for details on application. • There are no academic entry requirements. • All students sit a placement test on their first day to determine their starting level. • Enrolments are for a minimum of one week. • Students must have successfully completed Upper Intermediate Level or Academic IELTS 5.0 (with no sub-score below 5.0). Delivery Method ELICOS courses are full-time and start every Monday at our Ashmore Campus. Classes are delivered face-to-face for 25 hours per week. Career prospects - more information Students must complete all units of competency in each specific level to successfully achieve that level. Subject to visa conditions students who successfully complete English for Academic Purposes (EAP) can gain direct entry into a Diploma or Certificate level course at GCIT. Options for study after students have successfully completed Upper Intermediate Level are: • Advanced - General English • English for Academic Purposes (EAP) • IELTS Preparation Course Courses are accredited by the National Accreditation Scheme Limited (NEAS) Australia. Successful completion of English for Academic Purposes, with a duration of 10 weeks, meets the language requirement for entry into Central Queensland University CQU Higher Education Diploma programs and Foundation Studies program. Resources required All students have access to computers, the language laboratory, and the Library between 8.00am and 9.00pm, 5 days per week (Monday to Friday). All materials, extra classes (as arranged), internet and email access, and the use of Library and Independent Learning Centre facilities are free. Included in the course fees are the International Student Handbook; Student Induction Handbook; and learning materials (including assessment requirements). Students need to have access to a computer, the internet, and a personal email account. The Institute will provide access to: • Photocopier • Computers - Windows 7, Internet Explorer 8, Microsoft Office Professional 2010, job-related software for teaching-learning, computer disk drive, and USB ports • Learning environment - classrooms, tables, chairs, whiteboards, overhead projectors, flip sheets, TV/Video recorder, video/digital camera • Library reference material.
