General English (5–40 weeks) (ELICOS COURSES) There are three levels of General English offered at Central. Each course is designed to help you develop your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills using interesting and challenging texts and activities. In the General English Programs you will: • participate in different activities to help build speaking, listening and other language skills • be part of an enjoyable classroom environment to help you learn grammar skills • participate in excursions related to the teaching program About this Course This course will help you to develop and improve your English language skills for general everyday use or travel or work in an English speaking country. It will also offer a stepping stone to higher academic study and pathways to mainstream TAFE or University in Australia. Our General English courses provide many different activities to help you build up your speaking, listening and other language skills an enjoyable classroom environment to help you learn grammar skills and excursions related to the teaching program. Each skill is developed and practised using interesting and challenging texts and activities. Our highly qualified teachers will provide motivating lessons in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening in classes with students from all over the world. A communicative approach to English teaching is used with a focus on real English materials and engaging activities. Weekly Skills Workshops are available to all students at no extra cost, to provide opportunities to improve or develop specific skills. This course provides ongoing assessment and a formal Certificate on completion. Hours of Study 20 hours a week for 10 weeks (Maximum 60 weeks). IELTS 5.5 will allow students to meet the English requirements for entry to most Mainstream TAFE courses and other educational institutions. Completion of an advanced level course with an equiv IELTS 6.0 or 6.5 will meet the English requirement for an Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree course of study. Cost Tuition: $300 a week ($3,000 a term)

Academic English (5–30 weeks) (ELICOS COURSES) These courses at Central will help you develop the basic skills necessary for successful study in Certificate and Diploma courses at Central Institute of Technology. There are two levels of Academic English course so you can develop your academic skills at the most appropriate level. In the Academic English courses, you will: • Improve your grammar and sentence structure using interesting, relevant texts and a wide range of stimulating activities and tasks • Develop academic listening, reading, speaking and writing skills • Learn research skills • Practise listening to lectures • Learn to write a variety of assignments, and become familiar with the types of writing you require in Central's Mainstream courses. IELTS Preparation Courses These courses are for students preparing to enter certificate and diploma courses at Central Institute of Technology or University study. The IELTS preparation courses consist of three levels, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Advanced to cater for students with different needs and abilities. Foundation course: Introduces students with lower level language skills to the IELTS Test structure and focuses on developing all English skill areas. IELTS Plus and IELTS Masterclass: These courses are for students with intermediate to advanced English skills. They focus on two areas: one, developing skills and knowledge needed to take an IETLS Test; and two, improving the academic language and study skills in an Australian context. Speaking, listening, reading and writing are developed using a range of materials and topics common in IELTS Tests. Admission Requirements Intermediate English level or IELTS 5.0 equivalent. About this Course This course will teach you about the IELTS test through course work, practice tests and feedback from experienced lecturers, many of whom are IELTS Test examiners. IELTS Tests can be booked at a number IELTS Test Centres in Perth. Information about these Tests is available on the internet or you can ask your lecturer. You should be prepared to pay the test fee at the time of booking your IELTS test. As well as your IELTS test English level, you will receive a Certificate on completion of this program. International Business English This course is for students with intermediate or higher language skills. It aims to improve students' language ability by practicing speaking, listening, reading and writing in a range of business contexts. Topics covered include banking and finance, employment, industrial relations, management, marketing and advertising. Class activities are designed to improve the students' practical business and academic skills using a range of real business materials and working through authentic business tasks.
