General English The General English course is designed for students wishing to expand both social and work opportunities. The course helps students:
ㆍspeak and write well in English
ㆍunderstand English as it is spoken by native speakers from Australia, Britain and the United States
ㆍread newspapers, magazines and novels
ㆍlearn more about the lifestyle of people in English-speaking countries, with a special emphasis on Australia
ㆍIt is possible for a student to enrol in General English for less than a full module General English classes are conducted in five week modules.
English Access Program The UC English Access Program is a 20 week full time intensive academic English and study skills course for international students. The course provides a direct entry pathway into the university undergraduate award courses for those students who have successfully completed the requirements of the program*. To enter at this level, students require an IELTS score of 5.5 on the Academic module, or an equivalent score in the UC Academic Entry Test, or advanced standing attained in previous study in one of the UC English language programs. Students with an IELTS score of 6.0, or equivalent, may enter the English Access Course for a 10 week period.
Postgraduate Preparation Program PPP is the postgraduate direct entry pathway into the University of Canberra award courses. - Duration
ㆍ10 weeks from IELTS 6.0 entry level (PPP term B only)
ㆍ20 weeks from IELTS 5.5 entry level (PPP-A and PPP-B) - Exit level: Equivalent of IELTS 6.5 for entry to University of Canberra award courses. - Availability and Prerequisites PPP Term A is available as a 10 week course, prior to the commencement of the PPP Term B program of each year. Students entering this course must have achieved an adequate level of English language proficiency in a recognised English language test such as IELTS or TOEFL tests. An IELTS score of a least 5.5 or equivalent is normally a prerequisite for this course, except where advanced standing has been allowed on the basis of previous study in the ELICOS program, and /or following appropriate placement and diagnostic testing. This course is the first stage of a direct entry pathway for international students who require minimum English language entry requirements in order to commence a Masters program within the University of Canberra, but have not yet attained a high level of proficiency in English and a firm awareness of the culture that encompasses the language. Students entering this course will have already completed an undergraduate degree.
