English Studies Certificate Coquitlam College offers an excellent English Studies Certificate Program for students who need English language skills to succeed in all levels of academic studies. English Studies Program Levels:

ㆍUniversity Prep levels. Our English language programs are suitable for students entering high school, college or university. Many international students enter the English Studies Certificate Program before going on to high school or university studies. We offer a variety of courses including TOEFL, Grammar, Writing, Reading and Conversation. Placement Students in English Studies Programs are placed in appropriate classes as determined by the Coquitlam College English Diagnostic Test. Promotion from one level to another usually takes place at the end of a semester. Admission Requirements Students must be a minimum age of 15.

University Program The University Program provides students with courses at the first and second year university level which may be transferred to universities throughout Canada, the United States and elsewhere. Certificate and Diploma Programs Coquitlam College also offers university transfer credit programs that lead to Certificates (one year) and Diplomas (two years). Therefore, after completing the requirements for a Certificate or a Diploma, students may also transfer these course credits to a university program. Admission Requirements Admission to Coquitlam College's University Transfer Credit Program requires the satisfactory completion of an accredited high school program and the demonstration of sufficient proficiency in English at the university level. Those students whose native language is not English are normally required to present one of the following documents: A TOEFL score of at least 570 (paper based score) or 230 (computer based score) A CAEL score of at least 60 A minimum score of 6.5 on the I.E.L.T.S. In lieu of these documents, a student must demonstrate sufficient proficiency in English on the Coquitlam College English Diagnostic Test., regardless of their academic qualifications. Some programs may have additional requirements. A preparatory term or terms may be required in order to qualify for the University Transfer Credit Program.

Senior High School Program The Senior High School Program, consisting of Grades 10, 11 and 12, .is primarily designed to provide students with requirements for admission to colleges, universities and technical institutes in Canada .and the United States. It is also appropriate, however, for individuals who require upgrading in specific subject areas prior to undertaking post-secondary studies at Coquitlam College or elsewhere. The program is fully certified by the Independent Schools Branch of the Ministry of Education of the Province of British Columbia. Admission Requirements Students are accepted into grade 10 or 11 or 12 of the Senior High School Program based on the College's evaluation of their previous school's official transcripts and their ability to satisfy English language proficiency standards.
