뉴브런스위크 주의 주도인 프레드릭턴과 세인트 존스에 두개의 캠퍼스를 가진 뉴브런스윅 대학은 캠퍼스별로 독자적인 ESL 과정을 개설하고 있습니다. 프레드릭톤 캠퍼서의 ESL은 1단계가 3주로 구성되어 월요일부터 일요일까지 7일간 수업이며 마지막 주는 쉬는 형태입니다. 기간은 9월부터 4월까지로, 5월부터 8월까지는 5주과정의 여름학기입니다. 대부분의 학생들이 캐나다 가정에서 생활하며 영어만을 사용해야 하는 매우 집중적인 과정으로 많은 학생들로부터 실력향상 효과를 인전받고 있습니다. 여름학기에는 기숙사 생활도 가능합니다. 세인트 존스 College 에서 제공되는 영어과정은 토플점수가 500-549점 정도 가지고 있는 학생들에게 대학진학을 준비시켜주는 ESL Support 과정과 토플점수가 500점 미만인 학생들에게 집중영어과정인 English for Academic Purposes 가 제공됩니다. 그외에 Business English and Culture, Practical English Program, Industry-Specific Training 과 같은 다양한 코스들이 제공됩니다.

English for Academic Purposes The English for Academic Purpose (EAP) program is designed for students looking to enhance their academic English skills prior to beginning full-time studies at the University of New Brunswick. This program introduces students to university-level English language skills and to the assignments that will be expected of them. Students will listen, read, and respond critically to a variety of academic lectures and texts. They will practice note-taking, quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing in order to synthesize the ideas of others with their own while avoiding plagiarism. Required to participate in debates and classroom discussions students will give presentations as well as completing several research papers. > Who should take the EAP program? - International students planning on studying in English universities or colleges who need to improve their English skills before starting their academic programs - Immigrants and new Canadians who want to improve their English skills in order to find professional employment in Canada or who want to apply to English universities and colleges - International students or new Canadians who wish to apply to graduate or post-graduate programs in English universities or colleges but who need to improve their English first > Program length The EAP Program has six levels, ranging from Introductory to Advanced and most students don’t need to complete each level. For example, if a student begins the EAP Program at Level 3, he/she would only need to complete three levels of the six-level program. Each level of the EAP Program is eight weeks long, and each of the six levels is offered six times per year with sessions starting in January, March, May, July, September, and November. > Placement Placement is based on the final score received from the Saint John College English Placement Test. > Time In each level students spend approximately 30 hours per week in class and one – five hours in the computerized Language Lab where they practice their pronunciation and work on improving their English speaking skills.
English Second Language Support program The English Second Language (ESL) Support program is for students who have a good understanding of the English language but still require some training in specific areas to enable them to pursue their academic studies. Students entering this program must apply to, and be accepted, an academic program at UNB Saint John. Students who have a TOEFL IBT score of 61-79 (or equivalent) and who are preparing to take a university or college degree program in English are welcome. > Course load ESL courses are combined with academic courses students can take as credit towards their academic degrees. In addition to improving the academic skills necessary for success in university programs, ESL Support also focuses on time management and various study strategies. > Course topics include: - writing academic research essays - delivering academic presentations - participating in academic seminars - academic note taking - reading lengthy academic texts of various types Students are required to take three ESL courses and can take a maximum of two sheltered academic courses offered through Saint John College. Class time is typically 12 to 15 hours per week with additional time for some tutorials. The maximum amount of time a student will spend in class each week is 20 hours. > What is a sheltered academic course? Taught by UNB professors these courses are delivered in a way that better meets the needs of international students who require some extra preparation before beginning full-time university or college studies. > Start time The ESL Support program is a 14-week program offered three times per year. Sessions are offered at the beginning of every September, January, and May.

Get the skills you need A comprehensive preparatory program, UNB Saint John’s Pre-MBA offers: - Scholarships – from $3,000 to $8,000 CAD – to the top five students who successfully complete the Pre-MBA Program and begin the MBA program at UNB Saint John - More than just traditional classroom learning – students participate in numerous business-oriented activities, networking opportunities and lectures with professionals and guest speakers from the business community; - The opportunity for international students to acquire the graduate test scores (i.e. GMAT) required to meet Canadian MBA program entry requirements - For English second-language speakers, the program provides an opportunity to develop their English proficiency - Additional academic support; for example, language lab tutorials; Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL) and GMAT preparatory workshops - Airport pick-up service - Full access to all UNB campus facilities
