ㆍPrepare for a Bachelors / Masters University Programme Students can work in Ireland while attending this course Curriculum Outline The Academic Year Programme is ideal for students who wish to attain a specific level of English certified through one of the major internationally recognised English language testing systems such as Cambridge, ESOL or IELTS. DCU Language Services runs specialist Examination Preparation Classes (IELTS, Cambridge) throughout the year and so students can transfer to any of these specialist classes at no extra cost subject to adequate results from a placement test. We offer students regular progress assessments. Students can measure progress using the internationally recognised Oxford Online Computer Based Testing System. The results provide an important measure of a student’s rate of progress. Vacations Students are permitted to take vacations during the programme subject to the vacation and Academic Year Programme being completed within the timeframe of the 1 Year Student Visa. Visa Information Students who require a visa to study in Ireland must, while they are studying in Ireland, register to sit an Internationally Recognised Exam such as IELTS, Cambridge, TOEFL or TOEIC. If you require a visa and wish to work part-time or full-time during vacations, you must register for a course of at least 25 weeks. This will allow you to work 20 hours per week while you are studying and 40 hours per week during holiday periods.

General English General English is our most popular course at Dublin City University Language Services. This course will develop your Spoken, Written, Pronunciation, Grammar and Listening Skills in English. Students are placed in a class that is appropriate to their level of English and receive expert tuition from our team of experienced and friendly teachers.

Business English The Business English Programme is designed for students and professional individuals who wish to improve English competency for their career needs. English for Academic Purposes This programme is popular with students, academics and lecturers who seek to improve their English language ability in the field of education. The English for Academic Purposes programme has been devised around the acquisition of skills required to perform in an English-speaking academic environment across subject areas which are generally encountered in a university setting. Class times 8.50 to 12.50 or 13.30 - 17.30

IELTS Preparation Courses We are experts in IELTS examination training, and will help you to achieve the score you require in the IELTS exam. Many students attend this course in order to achieve an IELTS score of 6.5 or 7.0, which is the entry requirement for Irish and U.K. universities. Our students achieve excellent scores in exams. IELTS Intensive Course - 20 Hours of Classes per week + 10 Hours of Homework - Prepare for Success! The timetable for your course is set by the centralised DCU Timetabling Office which provides classrooms for courses at DCU.Class times 8.50 to 12.50 or 13.30 - 17.30 Our intensive courses will provide you with 20 hours of class input every week and additional 10 hours of work on assignments outside of class. You can study at home, in our computer lab or in the DCU Library. We constantly expand our teaching resources and we will provide you with the most up-to-date materials to learn from. Our DCULS classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and Wi-Fi to enhance your learning. During the course, you will be given at least one mock exam to experience the real life exam conditions and to make you feel confident before taking the external exam. All of our exam preparation courses are supported by an online platform which will provide you with extra resources to learn from and which will also enable you to communicate with your tutor and other classmates outside of class time.
