The Language Centre runs programmes to prepare you specifically for study at undergraduate or postgraduate level at an English speaking university. You will follow a carefully structured programme of Academic English, Research and Learning Skills, and IELTS or TOEFL iBT preparation. Our English for Otago (EFO) programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate students meet the English language requirements for entry to the University of Otago and are run twice a year leading into the university semester intakes. We also run a full 11-week English for Academic Purposes programme (EAP) during our Spring Term, which provides good preparation for the Summer Term EFO programme, and an abridged EAP programme at the start of the Autumn Term before EFO begins. You may need General English classes until your English reaches the level required for the EAP programme.

English for Otago English for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Academic Purposes To help students to achieve their goal of studying at Otago, the University of Otago Language Centre offers a pathway for students to meet the English language requirements for undergraduate or postgraduate study. The English for Otago course meets the undergraduate and postgraduate English language requirements for admission to Otago, so students are not being required to sit an IELTS examination. English for Otago also provides excellent preparation for academic study at the University of Otago. There are two courses available - one for students who want to study at undergraduate level and one for students who want to study at postgraduate level. The courses start in March and October for both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. English for Otago may suit: Students who already have a conditional offer from the International Office and are required to improve their English Students who have an unconditional offer from the International Office and who have not studied at a New Zealand tertiary institution.

English Language and Executive Education Are you a business person or work for a company? Do you need English language for business purposes? The University of Otago Language Centre offers a general English course with English for business purposes as a module.

Study Groups We offer many variations and make packages to suit your particular needs. > Options include: A combination of English, tourism and special interest activities. Intensive English - a full-time programme of English tailored to meet your group's English requirements. English for Specific Purposes: e.g. business, medicine, journalism, and other professional fields. All programmes have an orientation component. The standard programme for groups includes General English and activities outside the classroom. Students may be integrated into usual classes, work in their groups on a specially designed programme, or experience a mixture of both. Programmes are available to meet special needs; - for example English for Teachers and Business English.
