The Burlington School of English in London was founded in 1990 in order to provide high quality and innovative English language instruction with a curriculum that incorporates a communicative and holistic approach with cultural immersion in the customs and language of the United Kingdom. We are here to serve the needs of learners whose first language is not English in helping and assisting them in improving their English language abilities and to be successful in their pursuit of their academic, business and personal goals. The Burlington School is located in an affluent residential area of Fulham in South-West London. It benefits from being in the fashionable neighbourhood of Royal Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, breathtaking parks and scenery, delightful local shops and restaurants and easy access to all the wonders that London has to offer. With a wide choice of homestay accommodation on offer, the school has established itself as a first choice when high standards and location cannot be compromised. We also offer a range of fantastic residential accommodation in superb locations, several of which are situated within 10min walk from the school. At Burlington we have a range of different levels and types of courses to meet your needs and expectations. We offer General English, Business English, Exam Preparation Classes, English for Academic Purposes, English for Teachers, Cultural Studies and English for Specific Purposes in addition to daily Language Workshops. We offer group lessons and one-to-one tuition. We know you will find something to cater to your needs. All our teachers are qualified, experienced and provide good quality lessons at all levels. They are well supported by our Director of Studies and our administrative staff. The school is accredited by The British Council and is a member of English UK. We are also a registered Trinity Exam Center.

Cambridge Exam Preparation First Certificate in English (FCE)

ㆍLevels: Upper-Intermediate The Cambridge First Certificate Examination is a very popular exam and is increasing in recognition amongst employers and some universities in English speaking countries. This course will prepare you for the exam. You will have lots of practice with exam skills, and have the opportunity to increase your language ability as well. You should have B2 level of CEFR in English before joining the course. The School's FCE Preparation Course is designed to introduce test-taking strategies, as well as providing a thorough review of all skills necessary for those students taking the exam. ㆍLevels: Proficiency The Cambridge Proficiency Examination is Cambridge’s highest level exam. It is widely recognised by universities and employers as well as the UK Border Agency. This course will prepare you for the exam. You will practice exam skills and general English skills. You should have C2 level on the CEFR in English before joining the course. This Burlington course concentrates on the specific requirements for this test, and includes intensive class exercises in all necessary skills.

ㆍLevels: Upper-Intermediate and above The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam is an extremely popular exam and is required by most universities in English speaking countries. We offer courses to prepare you for the IELTS exam at two different levels: IELTS Intermediate: This is an introduction to the IELTS exam. You will have a lot of exam practice, and a chance to improve your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. To join this course you need to be at Upper-Intermediate level or above (B2 level of CEFR in English). IELTS Advanced: This is an extension of the IELTS Intermediate course and is designed for those who have Advanced level English or above (C1 level of CEFR in English). It is a more in-depth look at the necessary skills for the exam than the introductory IELTS course.
Business English

ㆍLevels: Intermediate and above We offer Business English courses in specific commercial subject areas. Each course combines GE15 with 5 lessons of specialist one-to-one or small group tuition in these business topics. The School’s instructors for these courses are not specialists in the subject area, but they are English language teachers with teaching experience in the terminology, grammar, dialogue and language usage relating to these business fields. One-to-one Business English tutoring is also available, with a recommended minimum of 5 lessons per week. Small groups of business professionals might like to consider special closed mini sessions of a week or more. These sessions typically involve 3 or more students who share an interest in a particular topic or language skill requirement. GBE20C – General Business English Working in an office environment requires the use of specific vocabulary and language skills. If you are going to work for an organisation where English is used in a business context, this course is for you. BE20A – Tourism Industry English This course assists students in qualifying for appointments in the tourism/travel industry and is based on individual student needs. The specialised tuition allows students to focus on language relevant to the field, and to familiarise themselves with all aspects of the travel industry. The tourist/travel industry is the fastest-growing service sector in the world, measured in terms of new jobs created each year. This Burlington course assists students in qualifying for appointments in this field. The course syllabus is based on an individual student’s needs, and employs state-of-the-art published materials. The daily lessons of specialised tuition allows students to focus on language relevant to their field, and to familiarise themselves with all aspects of the travel industry. This course is a popular option for students seeking English instruction to support their future career objectives. GBE20D – Marketing English Many students who decide to go into the world of business are involved in marketing or sales and global trade, an area of business that needs individuals who are effective and persuasive in their use of the English language. Our course allows students to master the language and skills they need to work in this field. GBE20E – General Office English This course teaches students English language as used in a typical English speaking office environment. A particular focus is placed on every-day interactions in multinational office settings where English is the primary language of business. In this course component, the student learns English language as used in a typical western office setting. In class, the teacher simulates office environments and the most effective methods for communication in written and oral form in a variety of different situations. GBE20F - Import/Export English This course covers typical communication challenges facing trading companies who deal with western companies, suppliers and trading partners in English.
