This highly successful course is designed for international students who want to progress to a British university or a Foundation Degree at City of Bristol College. It is specially designed for well-motivated students who wish to develop the essential study skills, subject skills and knowledge needed to be successful at University. You can choose from 5 different routes. If you are not sure which route you want please contact us for more details. Who is the course for? • Adults over 18 with a strong enthusiasm for study • Mature students who want to enter Higher Education in September 2012 • Mature students who have a good record of academic success in their own country • If you are not at IELTS 5.5 you could join our 2 year programme to develop your academic skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking What will I do on the course? We have different routes on the course depending on what you want to study at University. The course lasts for one or two years depending on your entry qualifications. • Business Studies route: Business Studies, Higher Maths, Statistics, Core Maths, English, Study Skills • Biological sciences route: Chemistry, Biology, Statistics, Core Maths, English, Study Skills • Computing route: Computing, Higher Maths, Statistics, Core Maths, English, Study Skills • Chemical sciences route: Chemistry, Physics, Higher Maths, Core Maths, English, Study Skills • Engineering route: Physics, Higher Maths, Statistics, Core Maths, English, Study Skills • Full support from specialist academic staff and a personal tutor • 15 hours per week studying in college and 4 hours per week of additional English language classes • 20 self directed study hours per week • You can improve your IT skills ready for studying at university level Entry Requirements You will need: We will give you an assessment in English when you arrive at the college to check you can succeed and are on the right course. If we find you are struggling with the one year programme you will need to be prepared to move to the two year programme. • Good standard of written and spoken English • IELTS score of 5.5 (one year programme) including 5.5 for writing and reading • Or Pearson PTE score of more than 46 (one year programme) • Good school leaving qualifications for both programmes What could I do next? After successful completion of this course you will be qualified for study at university level in the UK and have improved your English and knowledge of specialist subjects. • Students are able to apply to any university in the UK • Receive specialist help with choosing your university course and completing the UCAS form • Guaranteed consideration for a place on a Foundation Degree at City of Bristol College • Successful students have progressed to University at Bristol, Sheffield, London, Bath, Sussex, Manchester, York, Cardiff, Leeds and West of England
Qualification: College Certificate Mode of Learning: Full-time Level: Level 3 This course is for international students aged 17+ who want to develop their academic English and study skills so they may progress to Higher Education. Who is the course for? • Adults over 17 • Students who wish to progress to Higher Education • Students with a good record of academic success in their own country What will I do on the course? The course lasts for one or two years depending on your entry qualifications. During the first year you will: • Develop academic reading and writing skills • Develop maths skills and study the language of maths • Study Business English • Produce presentations • Work on study and exam skills and techniques • Learn about cultural awareness for studying and living in the UK • Prepare for IELTS exam Entry Requirements You will need: You will have a placement test to check if you can succeed and are on the right course. • IELTS 4.5 ( including writing at this level) - for September entry OR • IELTS 5.0 (including writing at this level) - for January/February entry OR • Equivalent PTE score • Good school leaving qualifications • Commitment to full-time study - 15 hours per week What could I do next?
