General English Courses Main Course timetable Our Main Course is an intensive general English language course for students who want to improve their general use of English Lessons per week 20 X 50 minute lessons a week Start Dates Students can start on any Monday Class Size Maximum 13 Materials Students keep all materials Levels There are seven levels; 1 - Beginners 2 - Elementary 3 - Lower Intermediate 4 - Intermediate 5 - Higher Intermediate 6 - Advanced 7 - Very Advanced. Each level usually takes eight weeks to complete. Beginners We accept complete beginners. However students who cannot join a group because their level is too low, receive just 10 invidual lessons with their teacher and 10 lessons private study. They join a group when they are ready. Testing Students are tested when they arrive and are placed in the correct class for their level. They are tested for speaking, grammar and communication. The test is part of their course. There is a test each month to see if students can move to a higher level. Students can change level only when they have reached the correct standard. Course Length Students must stay for a minimum of two weeks. Course Content Listening and speaking are given main priority but there is plenty of practice in reading and writing. Teachers organise the course to meet the needs of their students.

Colchester English Study Centre is an authorised centre for the Cambridge University English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) exams, and offers exam preparation courses for these. CESC runs Cambridge Exam Preparation courses for First Certificate (FCE) and the Certificate in Advanced English (CAE). These courses are of 20 classes a week (13 weeks tuition and 14 weeks accommodation or 10 weeks tuition and 10 weeks accommodation). Students can join these courses after the start date. Start dates for 2011 are: 4th January (10 weeks); 14th March, 5th September (13 weeks). The exams can be taken up to three times a year at the Centre. Colchester English Study Centre offers KET, PET, First Certificate, CAE and CPE. For professionals looking for internationally-recognised, area-specific English language qualifications, CESC also runs ILEC (International Legal English Certificate) and BEC (Business English Certificate), and offers preparation courses for these on demand.

A full-time (morning and afternoon) course, 25 lessons a week. Students should be at B2 (Upper-Intermediate) level or above to be eligible. Morning lessons cover reading, listening and speaking requirements; afternoon lessons address writing.
