General English (GEN15) The General English course consists of 15 hours of study per week, with the following timetable: 09:00 - 10:00 Accuracy classes; grammar, writing, correction, etc. 10:15 - 11:15 Fluency classes: topic-based listening, speaking, vocabulary, etc. 11:30 - 12:30 A mixture of accuracy and fluency practice One afternoon social activity per week (usually on Thursdays) is offered throughout the year and is included in the price of tuition. In July and August, a complete five-day afternoon social activities programme is available. Intensive English (INT25) The Intensive English course consists of 25 hours of study per week, with the following timetable. 09:00 - 10:00 Accuracy classes; grammar, writing, correction, etc. 10:15 - 11:15 Fluency classes: topic-based listening, speaking, vocabulary, etc. 11:30 - 12:30 A mixture of accuracy and fluency practice 13:30 - 15:45 Multi-skills classes, which in addition to the above may include videos, project work, conversation, etc.
Pre-International Baccalaureate (IB) and Pre-Boarding Courses If you would like to enrol in an International Baccalureate programme or boarding school in the United Kingdom, but your English level does not meet the standards required, CIE can help. You will attend group English language lessons in the mornings, and in the afternoons, you will have lessons in Science and Maths to help you improve your English for academic purposes (EAP). You may also study any specific subject linked to your future International Baccalaureate, GCSE, or Advanced Level (A–level) courses with a private tutor, one–to–one. If you have not yet selected an International Baccalaureate course or boarding school in the UK, your personal tutor will help you research the various options and will help you choose the programme and school that is best for you. Our principal, John Hudson, has many years of experience in English education, having been deputy head of a large comprehensive school in Oxford for 30 years as well as an A-level teacher at Wycombe Abbey School, one of the top boarding schools in the UK. Our staff will help ensure that you find a place in a school that meets your individual needs and expectations. We will also help you prepare for any examinations required by the school(s) that you choose. We have a proven record of success in helping students prepare to study for the IB diploma or in other UK boarding programmes, having sent students on to schools such as the Magdalen College school in Oxford, St Clare's in Oxford, and Roedean in Brighton.
Business English We are pleased to offer a variety of Business English courses. • Foundation Course (for students wishing to attend a British university) • Business English for Professionals [Foundation Course in Business studies] This course is designed for those students who have • completed their High School studies in their own country • have an IELTS score of at least 4.5 (or equivalent), and • would like to enter a British University to take a degree in Business Studies or related areas. The course comprises Business English, Study Skills, IELTS preparation, and Business Studies modules. Assessment is by coursework which is moderated by lecturers at Brookes University. This course is taught by Homara Rana, a graduate in Business Studies at Brookes University, and John Hudson, Principal of CIE. [Business Studies for Professionals] This course is taught on a one-to-one basis and is tailored to meet the needs of each applicant. The tutor in charge of the course is David Davies, a graduate of University College, Oxford, who qualified as a barrister. His interests in business and law resulted in him representing various trade organisations and presenting seminars on legal issues for industry. His vast business and legal knowledge enable him to bring many interesting dimensions to his teaching.
All-Inclusive Packages For our summer school, we offer several different packages for our programmes. The package prices provided are for senior students (aged 16+) and include • single accommodation • 15 hours of English language tuition per week • return airport transfer • bank fees • registration fee • your choice of either social activities or afternoon lessons We are also happy to accept junior students (under age 16) for a weekly supplement of £20. Many other options and discounts for longer-term bookings are available. Please contact CIE for an individual quotation.
The teachers at CIE are trained to help you prepare for most English language examinations, such as: IELTS FCE (First Certificate in English) KET (Key English Test) PET (Preliminary English Test) CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) BEC (Business English Certificate) BULATS (Business Language Testing Service) TOEFL TOEIC TOLES Other examinations upon request If we have enough students to make a class, we can offer these classes in groups in the morning. Otherwise, you can prepare for these exams in one-to-one private lessons, either solely or as an afternoon add-on to General English lessons.
