English Language Plus Over 450 students a year from around the world study on this popular and flexible English Language course. You can choose from several start dates and course lengths depending on your study objectives. The minimum duration for European students is one term, whereas International (non-European) students may choose to study for a minimum of half a term. English Language Plus is the perfect course if you want to improve your General English, work towards an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) exam and study a wide range of work-related or academic options. Classes are offered at many different levels and we will place you with students who have a similar level of English. You will study with adult students (minimum age 16) in a friendly and supportive environment allowing you to grow in confidence and reach your full potential. You will study at the same college as British students, giving you a true insight into British culture and the chance to communicate with native speakers. You will enjoy modern classroom and IT facilities together with language laboratories. There is also a well resourced Languages Self Access Centre on the Lewes campus. You can choose to study in Lewes, a beautiful historic town close to the city of Brighton and Hove, or in Eastbourne, a vibrant seaside resort. We offer different Plus options at each campus so please see the table opposite to help you with your choice.

ㆍIdeal pre-sessional course for academic study Sussex Downs College is one of the largest IELTS test centres in the world. You will study and take your IELTS test at the same campus along with students from a wide range of nationalities and backgrounds. We have a worldwide reputation for our IELTS training and testing. IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. It measures your ability to communicate across all four language skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking. The Intensive IELTS course is ideal if you wish to go to a UK university or need to take the exam for professional purposes. This course offers year-round focused and targeted training in preparation for your IELTS test. Our IELTS teaching team includes experienced examiners and IELTS course book writers, giving you the best possible chance of success.
Adult Summer Courses The Adult English Language Summer Course is popular with students from all over the world. You will learn in multi-national classes using modern classroom materials and you will receive a certificate at the end of your course. Please note that the London Olympics will be taking place during 27 July 2012 to 12 August 2012. We strongly recommend that book your course place and travel to the UK as early as possible to avoid disappointment. Studies can be combined with our optional programme of activities and excursions to some of the most popular tourist destinations in England as shown opposite. This includes one full day excursion and one half day sports activity per week. By taking part you will be sure to make the most of your time in England, whilst making friends and having fun. Our Adult Summer course is highly recommended as excellent preparation for academic or vocational studies, giving you the opportunity to take the IELTS test during July and August if required. General English is taught in the mornings including grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and skills. On Tuesday and Thursday afternoons you may choose one of the following options:

A Levels A Levels are your passport to the best universities in the UK and are typically studied in three or four subjects. In 2011, 2008 and 2009 100% of our students passed their A2 exams, with 43% of students receiving grades A* to A in 2011. Our students' exam grades demonstrate that our results are consistently high and well above the national average. We have an excellent reputation for the quality of our courses with over 750 UK and international students qualifying for university each year, making us one of the top state colleges in the UK. International Foundation Year The International Foundation Year is a one year fast track and targeted course allowing you to progress to a degree programme at a UK university. Students will study towards internationally-recognised AS and A Level qualifications, a Sussex Downs College International Foundation year qualification and IELTS. You can choose from seven courses: Applied Earth Sciences, Business, Computing, Engineering, Maths, Science and Sociology. Upon successful completion of the course you will be able to progress to an undergraduate degree programme at one of our partner universities. Please note that for some degree subjects there may be specific subject requirements. In addition, a range of other UK universities have accepted successful International Foundation Year students, subject to their own criteria and availability of places. You will study three AS Level courses relevant to your chosen pathway alongside our UK students. For students taking the Computing, Engineering or Maths International Foundation Year programme, you will take both AS and A2 Level Maths, in addition to one further AS Level subject. In addition to your academic courses you will study English Language, IELTS and Study Skills as well as preparing a detailed.
