General English In our General English classes we teach you to use the language, as well as learn the rules. All year round Minimum age 16 years Maximum class size 15 Beginners to advanced 21 or 15 hours per week Language is about communication, so General English classes will help you to use the language in real situations. We aim to help you improve all aspects of your English: speaking, reading, writing, listening, vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar. Every week you will have a private tutorial with your teacher to discuss your progress. In addition, you will have lessons with other teachers in order to give you a varied and interesting language-learning programme. You will study from books, listen to recordings, watch and talk about videos, use the language laboratory and computers and talk to your teachers and to each other. You will have more than one teacher in order to get the most from your time here.
Prepare for the IELTS exam if you want to study in an English-speaking university. In the IELTS exam preparation classes, you will use your English to practise the specific types of questions found in the exams. Every two weeks you will sit a mock test of one of the exam modules so that you can have an idea of what score you can reasonably expect to get. The exam modules are made up of four parts: listening, reading, writing and speaking. IELTS results are graded on the unique IELTS 9-band scale. Courses start on every Monday throughout the year; however we strongly recommend you start at least 4 weeks before your examination date.
The Cambridge exams are well known for their high quality assessment of real English, as used in everyday work, study and leisure situations. FCE (First Certificate in English) is designed for people who can use everyday English at an intermediate level. It is an ideal exam for people who want to use English for work or study purposes. CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) and CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) are exams for advanced users of English. Courses start on specific dates 4 times a year for FCE exams and 3 times a year for CAE and CPE exams. Please contact us for further information on CAE and CPE course availability.
This course is for you if you are working in any business sector or intend to be in business, studying business, or are just interested in business. You will study in a General English class in the mornings and a special business class in the afternoons. We aim to help you learn English to an appropriate standard and use it in a business context. The content of the course depends very much on what the students need and it can be adapted to cover other topics which you would like to focus on. The following areas provide the framework for the course: * business vocabulary (for example: marketing, finance, commerce) * functional language for business situations (for example: meetings, presentations) * practising and role playing business situations * understanding and writing business documents * cultural differences and business etiquette * discussion of business and political issues * social English in a business context All of these will be looked at using a variety of different material and facilities. For example, you will use an interactive whiteboard to prepare and give business presentations, guided by your teacher. You might also read business articles from journals and newspapers, and discuss the issues raised. In addition you may visit businesses and meet local business people. This course can also be combined with one-to-one tuition for those individuals who prefer a more intensive programme.
