English Language Centre (ELC)-Bristol

General English General English Course includes grammar, pronunciation, listening, speaking, reading and writing. If your level is upper-intermediate or above, you can also choose to do an option in Business English, Study Skills, Literature, British Life and Culture or Conversation on two afternoons per week. All courses include a minimum of 28 English language lessons per week (21 hours) + daily homework. There are lessons every morning and on four afternoons a week. There are 6 levels from Elementary to Advanced, with several classes at each level. On the first day, we test you so that we can place you in a language class at the right level. Average class size: 10. Normal maximum: 12, Very occasionally 13 or 14. As a part of your course, you can prepare for the Cambridge exams, the IELTS exam and London Chamber of Commerce (English for Business 2nd level). Study materials are also available for TOEFL,TOEIC and BEC. Included in your English language course:

ㆍPersonal study programme with 4 hours' supervised study

ㆍCourse book, file, supplementary teaching materials and a certificate when you leave.

ㆍFilm club - every Friday afternoon.

ㆍWi-fi and two computer rooms with free internet access.

Combination Course With a Combination Course, you have the normal 21 hours in class with other students, but you also have an additional 6 hours per week private tuition with your own private English tutor. These private lessons are usually held after school from 15.45 to 17.15 (Monday to Thursday). Combination courses are not available in July and August.

Cambridge Examination Preparation Course At ELC Bristol you can prepare for the Cambridge First Certificate, Advanced and Proficiency exams. We are one of the very few schools in the UK which regularly prepares students for the Proficiency exam Students who are preparing for one of the Cambridge exams will follow a course book in the morning classes which will cover the Cambridge syllabus. On two afternoons a week, students get additional practice for the writing paper and on the other two afternoons they can choose one of the elective classes. Mock exams are held 3 weeks before the exams take place. Cambridge preparation courses are not 'closed', which means that students can join the course at a later date if they are not able to attend for the full period.
