General and Intensive English Courses • Minimum age: 16 years Course start dates: • General English Course - each week from March to end of June and end of August to mid September • Intensive English Course - each week from March to mid September Course duration: • for both courses - from 2 weeks English level: • for both courses - from Elementary to Proficiency (Level 2 - 8) - No beginners Courses include: • General English Course: 15 hours of English language tuition per week • Intensive English Course: 22.5 hours of English language tuition per week Example English Class times: • General English Course: 09:00 – 10:30 and 11:00 – 12:30 hours • Intensive English Course: 09:00 – 10:30, 11:00 – 12:30 and 13:30 – 15:00 hours Course contents: • Structured course programme covering the 4 basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing • Emphasis on grammar in context, vocabulary and syntax • Regular examination counselling • Additional free examination practice lessons • Regular progress assessments
Intensive English Examination Courses Depending on the student's level of English, students can take the following examinations: Cambridge KET, PET, FCE, CAE and CPE. Examinations take place in early June (see fee-sheet for exact dates) To take a Cambridge Examination Course, students need to complete a pre-test, so that they can be classed in the correct level. • Minimum age: 16 years • Course start dates: from the middle of March (see fee-sheet for exact dates) • Course duration: 10, 12, and 14 weeks English level: • KET examination: Level 2 • PET examination: Level 4 • FCE examination: Level 5 • CAE examination: Level 7 • CPE examination: Level 8 Course includes: • 22.5 hours of English language tuition and examination preparation per week Example English Class times: • 09.00 - 10.30, 11.00 - 12.30, and 13.30 - 15.00 hours Course contents: • Structured course programme covering the 4 basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing • Emphasis on grammar in context, vocabulary and syntax • Specialised preparation for all examination papers • Examination techniques • Regular practice tests for all examination papers • Individual tutorials • Guided homework sessions
Adult Vacation Courses * Intensive English plus Tennis Course • Minimum age: 17 years • Course start dates: Summer only (see fee-sheet for exact dates) • Course duration: from 2 weeks • English level: from Elementary to Proficiency (Level 2 - 8) (No beginners) Course includes: • Intensive English Course: 22.5 hours of English language tuition per week • + 5 hours of tennis coaching per week • Example Class times: 09.00 - 10.30, 11.00 - 12.30, 13.30 - 15.00 and 16.00 - 17.00 hours * General English plus Activities Course • Minimum age: 17 years • Course start dates: Summer only (see fee-sheet for exact dates) • Course duration: from 2 weeks • English level: from Elementary to Proficiency (Level 2 - 8) (No beginners) Course includes: Mondays to Fridays • 15 hours of English language tuition per week from 09.00 - 12.30 hours • + 3 afternoons of activities per week between 14.00 and 17.00 hours, including a range from the following: • Activities: Quad-biking, quaser laser games, ten-pin bowling, paintball, abseiling, archery, climbing, rifle shooting, zorbing, boat cruise, mountain biking, ropes course, pitch and putt, go-karting, shock wave jet boat ride, canoeing
Junior Courses The first course offered at Harrow House in 1969 was a Junior Course, which makes our Junior Programme one of the most established and longest running Junior Course Programmes in the UK. The success of these courses is born out by the very high student return rate, with up to 40% of students returning for a second year and many returning for a number of years thereafter. Other contributing factors are: Our unrivalled facilities, active programmes - 7 days a week, dedicated teachers, international atmosphere with over 60 different nationalities (in the summer season), supervision by our residential staff, a wide range of evening sports, games and social activities, on-site residential accommodation and the safety of Swanage as a destination to name a few. Junior Courses include: 15 hours English language tuition per week + 15 hours per week of selected Junior course options + College accommodation in dormitories with full board for students from 8 to 17 years or Homestay accommodation in twin rooms with full board for students from 15 years to 17 years + Junior welcome folder + Study certificate + Evenings: organised free-time activities including Discos, Karaoke, Sports Activities, Live Music, Pantomime, Quiz games, Talent shows, Competitions, Bingo, Films and Internet Access + Weekends: • 1 half-day excursion on second Sunday only • 1 full-day Saturday excursion during 2 week stay, 2 full-day Saturday excursions during 3 week stay, etc. (The Junior One-Week Taster Course includes 1 half-day Sunday excursion only). Outdor Activities and Excursion Programmes are weather dependent.
