Milner School is wholly owned by the Milner family, whose experience of owning and operating schools of English in England and Australia exceeds 30 years. Our students enjoy a friendly, personal atmosphere in a professional school. Our courses are excellent value for money. Milner School is conveniently located in the centre of Wimbledon, a short walk from both Wimbledon Station and South Wimbledon Station, and well-served by local bus routes. Wimbledon itself offers a wide range of attractions and has the added benefit of being less than 20 minutes from central London by train. Milner School is accredited by the British Council which guarantees the quality of our English Language courses. We are also a member of English UK. Milner School offers Intensive General English courses to cater for levels ranging from Elementary to Advanced. We also specialise in examination preparation courses (both Cambridge and IELTS) for which we do not charge higher fees. The maximum number of students is 12 per class and our lessons are 60 minutes, not 45 as in many other schools. This value is also allied to great flexibility – courses start every Monday and students can study for as little as one week.

General English ▶ 6 levels: Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate A, Intermediate B, Higher Intermediate, and Advanced. ▶ Students can select one of the following 3 options:
ㆍ22 hours/week: Mon to Thur, 9.30am - 3.15pm. Friday 9.30am - 12.45pm.
ㆍ15 hours/week: Mon to Fri, 9.30am - 12.45pm.
ㆍ7 hours/week: Mon to Thur, 1.30pm - 3.15pm. ▶ Minimum course length is one week. Courses start every Monday. Our 'teaching hour' is 60 minutes long. ▶ Long-term students can enrol in our Academic Year Programme, which is 36 weeks in length. ▶ This above programme can be taken for 22 or 15 hours/week, and students can start on any Monday. ▶ All General English students complete a written and spoken test on their first day, to determine their level. ▶ Students' progress is closely monitored by their teacher and our Director of Studies. ▶ Milner has multi-national classes with an average of 9 students per class (maximum 12). ▶ Course content:
ㆍgrammatical structure, functions, guided conversations, vocabulary, communicative situations,
ㆍreading/ writing/ listening/ speaking skills, accuracy, fluency and pronunciation. ▶ Students who complete their course satisfactorily receive the Milner School of English Certificate with level.
IELTS Preparation
ㆍIELTS is an internationally recognised test, which can enable students to gain entry into universities and colleges across the world.
ㆍIELTS preparation at Milner is for 22 or 15 hours/week. Pre-entry test required prior to acceptance into the IELTS class.
ㆍSuitable for intermediate to advanced level students.
ㆍFocus is on academic writing and reading skills.
ㆍAverage class size: 8/9 students. Maximum 12.
ㆍMilner's IELTS teachers are experienced in teaching academic English.
ㆍIELTS tuition fees are the same as for General English.
ㆍThe IELTS exam is available monthly in Wimbledon.
ㆍThe IELTS exam has 4 sections: Listening - 30 minutes. Reading - 1 hour. Writing - 1 hour. Speaking interviews - 11 to 15 minutes.
ㆍThere is no "pass" or "fail" on the IELTS exam. Results are expressed in "Bands", from Band 1 (non-user) to Band 9 (expert user).
Cambridge Exam Preparation First Certificate in English (FCE)
ㆍEntry to the FCE course is gained after passing our pre-entry test.
ㆍFCE is suitable for upper-intermediate level students.
ㆍAt the end of the course, FCE students should have a very good grasp of vocabulary and be able to construct a convincing argument.
ㆍThey should also be aware of varying degrees of formality and politeness as expressed in language.
ㆍFCE is recognized by some employers and universities as proof of intermediate level.
ㆍThe FCE examination is approximately equivalent in level to TOEFL 475 - 500 and TOEIC 625 - 660. Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)
ㆍEntry to the CAE course is gained after passing our pre-entry test.
ㆍCAE is suitable for advanced level students.
ㆍCAE students should be able to communicate with confidence in English at a proficient level.
ㆍCAE is internationally recognized by universities and employers.
ㆍThe CAE course focuses on real world tasks.
ㆍThe CAE exam is approximately equivalent to a TOEFL 550+, TOEIC 700+ and IELTS 6.5.
English plus Tennis Suitable for groups or individuals. Everybody knows that Wimbledon is famous for tennis! Our newest course is ENGLISH + TENNIS, available all year round.

Everyone knows Wimbledon as the centre of world tennis. Not everyone realises that it is a unique part of London which encompasses an attractive old village, a dynamic city centre and a huge expanse of natural woodland. Milner School of English is located in a quiet side street 300 metres from Wimbledon station. From the station, surface and underground trains take about 20 minutes to travel to central London.
Wimbledon offers something for everyone - from sports like squash, tennis, horse-riding, swimming and golf, to cinemas cafes and restaurants. A variety of social activities and sightseeing trips are organised by the school for the students.
