Tutorial Programme The teaching programme is based entirely on individual lessons. This means that the tutor's attention is focused on 1 student, and allows for a perfect match between the lesson content and the learning requirements of the student. - How Tutorial tuition helps: • the tutor devotes 100% attention to the student • teaching methods are adapted to the learning style and pace of the student • individual weaknesses and specific needs of the student are addressed • the course content is tailored to the student’s study or career objectives • inhibited or reserved students receive maximum talking practice • no time is wasted covering points already known to the student or of no relevance. - The personal language audit A language audit carried out by the Academic Manager and the tutors at the beginning of each course determines the precise level, needs and objectives of the participant. This forms the basis of the student’s personal learning programme. - Course dates All courses begin on any Monday of the year and finish on Friday afternoon. Students arrive on the Sunday before the start of the course and depart on the Saturday following the last day of the course.
Quatorial Programme The Quatorial programme consists of a variety of different sessions, designed not only to help develop language accuracy but also to allow the participant to overcome inhibitions and to use the language eloquently in all situations. Language focus in Quatorial lessons
ㆍcontrolled practice in language structures and lexis development with constant support and feedback to achieve a good command of: grammar structures, idioms, vocabulary and expressions
ㆍdrills to sharpen understanding of written text through reading exercises based on a wide range of materials: reports, articles, studies
ㆍcoaching and practice in writing letters, reports, emails, presentations, articles
ㆍformal listening exercises. Focus on multinational interaction
ㆍThe Quatorial Project: working on an engaging problem solving task participants use the soft skills of analysis and problem solving, collaboration, research, planning, assertiveness and self-direction. In addition, self-awareness is enhanced through the use of video playback and reflection on the interpersonal interactions and overall project outcomes.
ㆍPlenary Session: a News Review to practise formal presentation.
ㆍSpoken Performance Workshop: this is a fluency skills session to help the learner overcome inhibitions and group communication anxieties. Feedback focuses on performance rather than accuracy. Focus on individual needs The Quatorial programme includes one hour of Masterclass (teacher guided study). Participants can choose to replace this with 1 or 2 hours of Tutorial lessons which is time with a private tutor to work on individual language needs or specialised professional requirements. Course dates All courses begin on any Monday of the year and finish on Friday afternoon. Students arrive on the Sunday before the start of the course and depart on the Saturday following the last day of the course.
Octorial Programme The programme is based around Octorial (maximum 8 participants per class) lessons which concentrate on stimulating accurate reactions so that the use of the language rapidly becomes instinctive. - How the Octorial programme works: Students are exposed to a structured programme: • purpose-designed grammar exercises to develop the ability to write accurately in a range of styles and registers • interactive and dynamic oral practice sessions to encourage the expression of ideas and opinions, incorporating new vocabulary and idioms as well as manipulating sophisticated and more complex language structures • comprehension skills are developed using a wide variety of carefully selected written texts including newspaper and journal articles and literary texts • listening exercises using authentic materials to enable students to sharpen their comprehension skills, improve their pronunciation and increase their ability to think in the language • writing exercises for a wide range of situations from letters and emails to full reports or dissertations. • Spoken Performance Workshops: designed to promote active expression in the language with a focus on pronunciation, presentations, lectures and debates. • Plenary Session: a News Review to practise formal presentation. • Individual attention: The Octorial programme includes one hour of Masterclass (teacher-guided study).
