Intensive English Course (EFL)

ㆍEFL-20 course (morning only classes) Studio Cambridge's Intensive English courses - English For Life - are structured courses which focus on the use of English in normal everyday situations. They combine quality classroom teaching and self-study resources. EFL-20 is for students with all levels of English, from beginner to advanced, with 20 lessons (15 hours) per week. Classes are held in the mornings only, from Monday to Friday. All students will be assigned their own personal teacher. This teacher will be available to you in a tutorial after class hours, for discussion of your progress, evaluation of your English language strengths and weaknesses, and to give advice with self-study. Your teacher is there to ensure that you are satisfied with all academic aspects of your course and are progressing well.

ㆍEFL- 28 course Studio Cambridge's Intensive English courses - English For Life - are structured courses which focus on the use of English in normal everyday situations. They combine quality classroom teaching and self-study resources. EFL-28 is our most popular course. It consists of the EFL-20 course in the mornings, 20 lessons (15 hours) per week, plus an additional 8 afternoon classroom lessons (6 hours) per week. All students will be assigned their own personal teacher. This teacher will be available to you in a tutorial after class hours, for discussion of your progress, evaluation of your English language strengths and weaknesses, and advice with self-study. Your teacher is there to ensure that you are satisfied with all academic aspects of your course and are progressing well. - Afternoon classes EFL-28 offers 8 lessons (6 hours) of afternoon English tuition per week, in classes which differ in style from the morning classes. As well as offering a wider choice of options, students will usually be taught by a different teacher and the make-up of the class is likely to be different. This allows you the opportunity to work with and learn from different teaching styles and the chance to get to know more international students. You will be asked to choose which option you want to take once you start your course. You can usually move from option to option, (depending on availability).

Cambridge Examination These structured examination courses consist of 28 lessons of morning and afternoon classes each week. They prepare you for one of the following Cambridge University Examination Certificates: • FCE - First Certificate in English • CAE - Certificate in Advanced English The Cambridge examinations are among the most widely recognised English Language Tests in the world. They are set by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES). For more information, visit http://www.cambridge-efl.org.uk. The examinations are held in Cambridge at the end of your course. If you wish to take the examination, we will help you apply. • FCE - First Certificate in English This qualification is at the Upper Intermediate English level and success indicates a good working knowledge of English (Studio level 5 - equivalent to IELTS 5.5). You will need to be at least at the Intermediate level (Studio level 4 - equivalent to IELTS 4.5) to start this course. • CAE - Certificate in Advanced English This qualification is at the Advanced English level (Studio level 6 - equivalent to IELTS 6.5). You will need to be at least at the Upper Intermediate level (Studio level 5 - equivalent to IELTS 5.5) to start this course. All students will be assigned their own personal teacher. This teacher will be available to you in a tutorial after class hours, for discussion of your progress, evaluation of your English language strengths and weaknesses, and to give advice with self-study. Your teacher is there to ensure that you are satisfied with all academic aspects of your course and are progressing well. The Cambridge Examamination courses are structured and demanding. In addition to the 28 lessons, a lot of self-study, using our Learning Centre, and homework is required. During your first week, students will be instructed to buy course books for their chosen examination course, at an estimated cost of 45 GBP in total.

IELTS Preparation Course The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examination is used to assess language ability by many universities in the UK and around the world. It measures your ability to communicate in English across all four language skills, so it can be taken by anyone who intends to study or work where English is the language of communication. You can prepare for the IELTS examination in 2 ways at Studio Cambridge • By joining our IELTS-28 examination course which runs between March and October • By taking IELTS preparation as an afternoon option as part of our EFL-28 English course The IELTS-28 course is this is ideal preparation for the IELTS exam, and it has proven to be very effective, Each course lasts for 6 weeks and consists of 28 classroom lessons (21 hours) per week. All 168 lessons of this course concentrate exclusively on preparation for the examination. For this reason, it is recommended only for those students planning on taking the IELTS. If you wish to study longer than 6 weeks, you can combine two IELTS Examination courses (for a total of 12 weeks) or you can start your studies with our Intensive English Course EFL-28, with Option Four (Academic English) and then transfer to the IELTS Examination course at the appropriate time. This course is designed for people who require an IELTS score of at least 5.5. The average IELTS requirements range from 5.5 to 6.5 or more. However the course is also suitable for students aiming to score 7.0 or higher. All students attending the IELTS course will be assigned their own personal teacher. This teacher will be available to you in tutorials after class hours, for discussion of your progress, evaluation of your English langauge strengths and weaknesses, and to give advice with self-study. Your teacher is there to ensure that you are satisfied with all academic aspects of your course and are progressing well.

CELTA Certificate Course Studio Cambridge is recognised by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) as an approved centre for teaching the Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA). Our CELTA certificate courses are run 1 or 2 times per year. They are full-time, day time courses, lasting a full 4 weeks. Candidates should be 18 or over, have an awareness of language and a competence in both written and spoken English that will enable them to undertake the course and eventually teach a range of levels. They should also demonstrate the potential to develop the necessary skills to become effective language teachers. No previous ELT experience is necessary. On successful completion of the course, participants are awarded the UCLES CELTA certificate. * IMPORTANT: Admission to this course is subject to an initial personal interview. As we require a candidate to be assessed before being accepted on a course, you should not enrol online for the CELTA.
