학교 소개
Thanet College was founded in 1947 and is part of the state education system. Over 2,000 students study on full-time one- and two-year courses whilst another 4,000 attend a range of part-time programmes during the year. Students come to study at Thanet College to gain internationally recognised qualifications for entry to the professions or to skilled vocational areas, or to prepare for study at undergraduate level at university. The majority of students are local, with a small number drawn from mainland Europe and a further ninety international students from around the world. Thanet College is renowned for its excellent hospitality and catering courses. Other popular areas of study include hairdressing and beauty therapy, business, leisure and tourism, and complementary therapies. The College also offers year round English language courses. English as a foreign language (EFL) courses help students to gain English language qualifications to prepare for a full-time course or just improve their English language skills.

We can add English language training to an academic or vocational course to make a tailored programme or host a summer school for an overseas institution. We have part time courses for UK residents who need a little bit of help and full time courses for overseas students wanting to improve their English. General English Courses We offer full time English Language courses throughout the year. You can join on any Monday and study for as little as two weeks, so you can have as much or as little study as you need. We run several class levels at the same time at the same cost, so you can join the class that best suits your timetable and individual needs. Summer Schools Broadstairs is an ideal place to spend your Summer! You can improve your English while enjoying life in a traditional English seaside resort. Accommodation, tuition and a programme of social activities and trips around England are included.

General English
Nearly all language schools offer courses in general English. Some may be only two or three weeks long, and are usually held during Easter or summer holidays. There are also much longer courses up to one year in length, leading to recognised qualifications, which allow you to continue to higher level courses. These courses concentrate on using the language for conversation, so there will be more speaking than writing, particularly at the preliminary stages. Many schools will prepare you for examinations, and you should always check that they are offering courses that lead to recognised qualifications, if you need a qualification in English for your educational or career progress.
English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
If you are coming to study in a UK institution, particularly in a university, it's quite likely that you will have taken a test of your English as part of the application procedure. If the institution decides that your English is not yet good enough for you to take the course you want to study, your department will recommend that you do a pre-sessional course in English before you start to study. This will usually take place during the summer immediately before the start of your course, and will last one, two or three months depending on how much preparation you need. Some universities offer year-long courses. These courses focus on the language and the skills you need to study successfully, such as reading reference books, taking notes at a lecture, preparing a talk for a seminar and writing essays. If you need further tuition during the course you will be asked to attend in-sessional courses. These are usually an opportunity to get help with your course work from one of the language teachers at the institution. Most institutions offer their EAP courses openly, so you may not need to be a prospective student there in order to take such a course. Choosing an institution which is a member of BALEAP, and which has been accredited by their BASC accreditation scheme, means that it meets their requirements as regards teachers' qualifications, facilities and student welfare. English for Specific Purposes (ESP)
There is a wide choice of colleges and universities offering English courses for particular professions or specialities. Business English is the most popular and is available in many colleges, leading to specialised qualifications. There are also courses in Medical English, Legal English, English for Tourism, Catering, Engineering and many other fields of work. It is often possible to study such a course at the same time as you are studying for a qualification in that professional area, or your college may wish you to take the language course before starting the professional course.

Thanet College is not just a language school; it’s a college of over 6,000 students studying a range of academic and vocational courses. All international students are entitled to two hours of English language tuition a week as part of their mainstream programme, and we can offer help to those who are studying or living in the UK already but just need a little bit of help. One to One ‘Private’ Tuition Hour long one-to-one tutorials can be arranged with tutors as a needed at £20 per hour.
