Academic Year Course • Value for money • Improve your fluency & career prospects • Benefit from long-term stay in the UK • 27 or 36 week options • 21 or 15 lessons per week The Academic Year is one of our most popular courses. When you join a Mayfair School Academic Year you will have the opportunity to increase your fluency in English, make new friends from all over the world and improve your career prospects. On the Academic Year you will benefit from long-term language study while immersed in British life and culture. You can adapt your course to suit your personal needs by including exam preparation courses to help you get ready for university or employment. Please visit the Cambridge ESOL website to see a list of employers and universities that recognise the Cambridge examinations that you can study for on your Academic Year. You will also benefit from our flexible timetable and holiday arrangements that allow you to organise your course dates and times to suit you. All you need to do is make sure that you finish your course in one calendar year. Choose either a 27 or 36 week Academic Year, make real progress and save money on our standard course fees. Remember you can choose a Standard or Standard Plus Academic Year and study for 15 or 21 lessons per week. You can begin your Academic Year on any Monday and choose the best time of day for you to study.
General English Course • 3 timetables • Fulltime, Semi-Intensive & Intensive options • 1-48 weeks • Balance of language input & skills practice • 30, 21, or 15 hours/week We have general language courses to suit everyone with courses starting every week of the year. You can study any length of time from 1 to 48 weeks and choose the best timetable for you. You can study from 09.00 to 12.00, 12.00 to 15.00 or 15.00 to 18.00. Courses start every Monday. We also have intensive courses where you can study six lessons (5 hours) per day. We are happy to welcome all levels of ability from Beginners to Proficiency. With an average of 16 students per class you will receive lots of individual attention but also have lots of opportunities to practise new language with your classmates. General English will provide you with a balance of the input and skills that you need to improve your English for everyday use. We want to maximise the advantage of your time in London so our programmes focus on communication with pronunciation, speaking, listening and vocabulary featuring every day. Of course we also cover grammar, reading and writing on these courses and the flexible syllabus means that our tutors can plan each week according to your needs. Exam Preparation Course • Week-by-week IELTS GENERAL TRAINING course • Week-by-week IELTS ACADEMIC TRAINING course • 8 & 12 week FCE, CAE, CPE courses • Internationally recognised qualifications • Improve your employment prospects • 15 hours/week * IELTS Mayfair School offers a twelve-week preparation course for the IELTS Academic Training Examination as well as a continuous enrolment course for the IELTS General Training Examination. These courses are designed to familiarise you with the four different papers and improve your skills to help you obtain the result you need. You will study fifteen lessons per week and complete a substantial amount of homework. The IELTS exam takes place every Saturday in London and the school is happy to help you organise your place. You can find out your result in just two weeks and remember that a good IELTS result will also improve your CV.
ㆍIELTS for LIFE - a General English course that prepares students to take the IELTS General Training Exam. This course is suitable for strong intermediate students and above and is available at our normal General English course prices. Students may enrol on this course in any week, for 50 weeks out of the year.
ㆍIELTS for STUDY - a special course in Academic English that prepares students to take the IELTS Academic Training Exam, an essential requirement for all students who are interested in applying to study at a university or college in the UK in the future. This course is suitable for upper-intermediate students and above. Students may enrol in any week for 50 weeks out of the year; however, a minimum enrolment of 4 weeks is required to reflect the demanding nature of the course. * Cambridge Examination Courses These exams take place in March, June and December and our preparation courses last for either eight or twelve weeks. Students may enrol for 4, 8 or 12 weeks. These courses are for fifteen lessons per week. * ILEC Courses in London ILEC. International Legal English Certificate. This exam is aimed at upper-intermediate and advanced level learners of English and can be taken by law students and qualified lawyers. The examination takes place twice a year, in May and November, and tests learners at Common European Framework levels B2 and C1. These levels are equivalent to the FCE and CAE General English examinations. This exam is recognised by the European Company Lawyers Association, the European Law Students Association, the International Association of Young Lawyers and the European Young Bar Association. The exam contains four papers, reading, writing, listening and speaking and all candidates receive a statement of results showing their performance. Candidates who achieve passing grades will be awarded a certificate by University Cambridge ESOL examinations. Mayfair School of English offers on-demand preparation courses for ILEC for both groups and individuals. These courses are designed to ensure you achieve your maximum potential when taking the exam. Business English Course • English for the workplace • Work placements • Personalised tuition • Tailor-made courses • Intensive timetables available • Industry specific language & skills • 15 hours/week, 12-3pm • 1-12 weeks duration Business English We are now offering a new Business English course, which is designed to prepare students for our MAYFAIR COLLEGE Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses in Business Management and Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Management. The course is also suitable for students who are considering taking a work placement with our school as it will provide you with the confidence you need to make the most of your internship (for more details on our work placement programme see here). Our Business English course is simirlarly idea for professional people who would like to enhance their lingustic skillset and gain confidence in using English in the world of commerce and work generally. The course covers a whole range of language areas which will be beneficial to those using English to advance their careers: • Writing transactional emails, letters and memos • Giving presentations • Constructing a professional CV • Interview technique • Conducting formal and informal negoatiations • Producing spoken and written reports • Language useful for providing customer servivce • Descibing duties and responsibilities in the workplace • Handling/making enquiries via telephone • Analysing data in speech and writing • Explaining/making and responding to arrangements/suggestions..etc This course is suitable for strong intermediate students (IELTS 5.0+) and above.
Work Placement • Valuable experience in an English-speaking environment • Improve your workplace skills • Improve your CV • Minimum language level required Mayfair School of English's work placement scheme is offered in partnership with Professionals UK. We require that the Application Form is completed and sent to us along with the Curriculum Vitae for the student. It should be emailed to us at least 6 weeks in advance of the desired start date. The student will then have an interview with a Placement Coordinator. The Placement coordinator will then evaluate and contact the agent to advise on how we can place them. Students who speak no English will not be accepted and they must have English language ability equivalent to at least a Level 5 IELTS before beginning their placement. If the language level is only the minimum required they should not expect to do anything but the most basic tasks. This programme is ideal for students and young professionals aged between 18 and 32* who want to improve their English in a working environment and gain practical knowledge of certain UK business sectors. It is most suitable for students who have studied /worked or are planning on studying/working in the requested area of business. The internship is unpaid, but the experience invaluable. WORK PLACEMENT Minimum IELTS score of 5 or equivalent required Full and part time placements available.Minimum course length 4 weeks
