Academia Language School

General English Program Academia offers full and part-time programs for all levels of English students. Full-time students take a minimum of 20 hours per week and at no extra charge may take as many classes as they like. Depending on their status with Immigration, part-time students may usually take 15 hours per week. Some part-time students living in Hawaii or with certain visas may take more hours, so ask at our office. All students are welcome to participate in school-wide activities! Students can register any Monday or the first day of the month. If that day is a holiday, our registration is on the following Tuesday. During registration, students will have an interview and a placement test to determine their English level. Once a level is determined, the Director of Curriculum advises the student of the classes available in that student’s level. Students have one week to try the classes and select the ones that are right for them. Students can choose their classes to fit their level and the times they like. Classes vary, but with some exceptions, the schedule is:

ㆍMonday - Friday (full classes) 8:10-9:50 10:10-11:50 12:30-2:20 2:30-4:20 4:30-6:20

ㆍMonday - Friday (mini classes) 8:00-8:50 9:00-9:50 12:30-1:20 1:30-2:20

Test Preparation Program TOEIC – TOEIC classes meet daily (Mon–Fri). In these classes, students learn test-taking strategies, develop their reading and listening skills, review sample questions, and take sample tests. In addition to the TOEIC course itself, students can take other courses, such as Integrated Skills and Comprehensive English classes, that complement the objectives of the TOEIC class by giving students additional opportunities to improve their reading and listening skills. Academia Language School is the only official TOEIC testing site in Hawaii, making it easy for our students to prepare for the test and take it in a familiar location. TOEFL – TOEFL classes meet daily (Mon—Fri). In these classes, students learn test-taking strategies and develop their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills through a carefully designed and professionally administered TOEFL preparation course. Over the course of a term, students take a number of mock tests, giving them a chance to see their own progress as the course progresses. Additionally, Academia offers Integrated Skills and Comprehensive English courses that complement the objectives of the TOEFL course by giving students further opportunities to improve their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
