Approach International Student Center is a well established English language school located in Allston, MA, only 5 minutes away from Boston – one of the most dynamic student centers in the world. Surrounded by great colleges and universities such as Harvard University, MIT, Boston University (BU), and Boston College, we teach over 200 students every month ranging from 13 to 70+ years old. Our students come from all over the world to attend a variety of full-time and part-time English courses. A flexible schedule ensures students can start every Month and choose classes at the schedule that best suit their needs. We are open year round and offer classes Monday through Thursday from 9AM to 8PM. On Fridays the school is open for electove classes, extra help, self study and use of all school resources including the school library, testing room, computer lab and for meetings with course coordinators at no extra charge. Quality ESL courses at affordable prices We offer small classes with certified teachers, a monthly calendar of activities chaperoned by our staff, and access to tutors for extra help in our self study room. Our facilities include a library, computer labs with internet access, listening and video labs and a library for students to read and relax at the end of each day. Course choices include our Intensive English program or Semi Intensive English program, test preparation programs such as TOEFL, GMAT, GRE and SAT, a comprehensive ESL (English as a second language) teacher training internship and specialized ESL programs for advanced students including the Advanced Academic preparation and the ESL volunteering experience programs. ESL (English as a Second Language): programs in Boston The English programs at Approach are designed for students who need high quality lessons on a flexible schedule and at an affordable price. Our core curriculum covers 12 general levels of instruction from beginner to advanced and includes grammar, reading, writing conversation, vocabulary, listening and pronunciation courses. Full time students attending 30 classes per week can complete one general level in as little as one month. Aside the core ESL courses, the ESL progam offers a great variety of elective class choices include grammar topics, pre-TOEFL,Accent reduction, Business English, American idioms, American literature, Song lyrics, American history and Pop culture among others. Our ESL program schedule is the most flexible ever! We are the only school that lets you choose how many hours per week you want to study* and what time you want to come to school. ㆍGame room and internet access; Quality and flexibility at affordable prices On your first day, you will complete your registration, get your student ID and materials, take a placement test and undergo an interview with an instructor to be placed in one of our 12 ESL levels. Then you will be enrolled in your grammar, reading, writing, conversation, vocabulary, listening, and pronunciation courses. Each class lasts 50 minutes. Once you know your levels, you can select your schedule. This flexibility also gives you the option of taking only the subjects that interest you most. For example, you may choose to take more conversation lessons than grammar lessons, or more grammar lessons than vocaulary lessons, and so on. Our personalized placement combined with our flexible schedule and small classes ensures that you will take full advantage of your time spent at Approach. Specialty programs for advanced ESL Students The Approach’s ESL specialty program is designed for Advanced ESL students (levels 10+) interested in continuing to learn English as a Second Language while focusing on specific academic or professional objectives. [ESL STUDY GROUP] Designed for students who need to review topics from previous ESL levels and to close gaps in ESL instruction or strengthen individual skills from previous levels. [ESL WORK & STUDY] Designed for students who would like to participate in a non-paid internship to improve business English writing and/or communication skills in a real-life setting while experiencing the American work environment. [ADVANCED ACADEMIC PREPARATION] Designed for students that require ESL support during the first and second semesters of enrollment in undergraduate or graduate level courses or while working on specific academic projects such as thesis, research, or a publication. [ESL TEACHING INTERNSHIP] Designed for advanced students of English and native speakers certified to teach ESL (English as a Second Language) and/or EFL (English as a Foreign Language) at private language schools in the USA and abroad and wishing.
Test Preparation To achieve a great score on a standardized test, you must learn not only the test subjects, but also strategies to perform under time constraints. Besides the lack of English, most international students have specific needs according to their countries of origin and previous education. Our full-time courses cover the entire content of the exams, with a special focus on those topics that pose the most difficulty for international students. This specialized focus gives students an edge that "all-in-one" test prep companies cannot provide. [TOEFL IBT program] The Test of English as a Foreign Language ® (TOEFL) measures the ability of an international student to function in North American English as it is spoken, written and heard in an academic setting. Most colleges and universities in the USA require a TOEFL score before admitting an international student. Our TOEFL IBT (Internet-Based Test) preparation program starts every Monday and lasts 2 months. During the first month, we teach strategies while presenting the four sections of the test: reading, listening, speaking and writing. In the second month, we focus on individual students' needs and extra practice while reviewing each session in depth. [GMAT & GRE progams] The Graduate Management Admission Test® (GMAT) is designed to measure basic verbal, mathematical, and analytical writing skills that have been developed over a long period of time through education and work. It is a requirement for most business schools and MBA programs. The Graduate Record Examination Test® (GRE) also has three sections: verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and analytical writing. The GRE revised General Test replaced the GRE® General Test. Featuring the new test-taker friendly design and new questions, the revised test more closely reflects the kind of thinking you'll do in graduate or business school and demonstrates that you are ready for graduate-level work. Our GMAT & GRE courses are led by experienced instructors with 99th percentile overall scores. [SAT preparation] Many colleges and universities use the SAT and SAT subject tests for admission decisions and to advise students about course selection. Those tests assess your academic readiness for college. Our SAT teachers have degrees from the most prestigious universities, are test experts and exceptional teachers. Lessons cover the SAT's critical reading, writing, and mathematics sections, and the PSAT/NMSQT. During srlf study hours students have access to lessons featuring interactive activities and multimedia content to create an engaging learning environment. ESL Teen Cultural Cultural winter and summer English programs are designed for young students wishing to improve conversational skills while enjoying Boston. The perfect vacation program for teenagers (ages 13-17): Our cultural summer and winter programs mix serious learning, culture, and fun. Students have 12 hours of English classes per week. On your first day, you will take a placement test and undergo an interview with an instructor to be placed in one of our 12 ESL levels. Then you participate in an orientation to learn about the program activities. You will also be enrolled in your grammar, reading, writing, conversation, vocabulary, listening, and pronunciation courses. This personalized placement combined with our flexible schedule and small classes ensures that you can take full advantage of your class time spent at Approach. Program Highlights:
