| Conditional Admission |
Intensive English Program AEI courses are designed to prepare students for academic study at a U.S. college or university. In addition, the courses prepare students for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), which is required for admission to most colleges and universities in the United States. The courses also help students improve their communication skills for everyday life in an English-speaking country. Three Sessions a Year: • Fall: 13 weeks of instruction (20 hours per week) • Spring: 13 weeks of instruction (20 hours per week) • Summer: 10 weeks of instruction (20 hours per week) Program Features: • Low-intermediate to advanced levels ( no beginning level) • Click on this Self-Assessment if you are unsure of your level. You should understand about 90% of the Student Reading Self-Assessment passage and answer at least 4 out of 6 questions correctly. • An orientation program before classes begin • Up-to-date teaching methods • Trained and experienced instructors • Computer-Assisted-Language-Learning Lab • TOEFL testing • Concurrent enrollment in one university course for qualified students with advanced English skills Special Activities: • Regular social and cultural activities • Trips to such places as San Francisco, Santa Cruz, or Monterey.
Conditional Admission Conditional admission is available to academically eligible students who have not yet reached the required TOEFL or IELTS score. For undergraduate students seeking conditional admission, the minimum required score is 46 on TOEFL or 5.5 on IELTS. For graduate students seeking conditional admission, the minimum required score is 68 on the TOEFL or 6.0 on the IELTS. Graduate students seeking conditional admission must also meet the other graduate departmental requirements to be eligible. Students offered conditional admission are required to attend the American English Institute (AEI) located on the CSU Fresno campus. Graduate students may also be required to fulfill additional related requirements. Upon satisfying the minimum CSU Fresno TOEFL or IELTS requirement, a student asks to be reconsidered for full admission.

Student Services The AEI staff members are aware of the needs of international students and can assist students in many ways. The AEI provides an orientation program to help students adjust to living and studying in the U.S. It also sponsors field trips and social and cultural events. We are proud to introduce Fresno State's official ID card (the Bulldog Card) to our AEI students. As a Bulldog Card holder, AEI students will have full student privileges, such as the following:
