Intensive English Program 13-16 weeks (1-semester) The Intensive English Program (IEP) is a year-round, 7-level program which emphasizes preparation for academic work at the college/university level. This program is offered three times a year: Fall (August), Spring (January), and Summer (May). Students may begin in any of the three sessions and continue year-round. All levels of English learners are welcome. The Intensive English Program is for students who are:

ㆍFall & Spring: 23 hours/week All classes and classrooms are on the CSULB university campus * Conversation Lab Our optional Conversation Lab gives students the opportunity to meet, interact, and make friends with fluent speakers of English. Conversation Partners are current CSULB university students dedicated to helping our students improve their conversation skills. Level: Each level takes 1 session to complete (13-16 weeks) assuming the student passes all classes during that term. Students who complete level 4 (undergraduate) or level 6 (graduate) may use the American Language Institute's TOEFL waiver to enter a CSULB degree program, Long Beach City College, Orange Coast College, or Cypress College without taking the TOEFL test. For example, if a student is placed in level 2 during orientation, it will take 3 sessions (1-year of English) to complete level 4 and start their CSULB degree program the next Fall or Spring. CSULB Credit Courses: Students who are in level 5 or 6 of the Intensive English program are eligible to take CSULB univeristy courses through Open University while in the Intensive English program. The university courses taken are put on an official transcript that may be transferrable to other universities. ALI staff help students pick which courses to take and how to register.
Practical English Program Join us for a 3 week program in July or August! Make the most of your summer vacation! The Practical English Program emphasizes conversational English. Even though you don't have a long time-only 3 weeks-you will have a very valuable experience. Both July (2012) and August (2013) sessions include 15 hours of English classes per week as well as trips and activities. All students will receive:

ㆍ1-Day orientation with level placement test
Conditional Admission Find out if you are academically eligible for a CSULB degree program through the Academic Eligibility process, often called Conditional Admission on other campuses. Most university admissions offices will not review an application file until all of the required documents including a TOEFL score are submitted. However, by applying for Academic Eligibility through the American Language Institute, you can learn whether you are eligible for CSULB degree programs even if you do not have the required TOEFL score. After applying, CSULB International Admissions staff will inform applicants if they are eligible for admission to a degree program. Admission is not granted until all requirements are met and the necessary documents are turned in before the deadline.
