Intensive English Program This program helps students improve their English speaking, reading and writing skills and assists them in meeting the requirements for admission into undergraduate programs. • 10 weeks of instruction • 6 levels of instruction • 4-5 hours per day, 5 days per week (4 days per week in summer) • TOEFL exam preparation included (intermediate and advanced levels only) • Successful completion of Level 5 will waive the TOEFL requirement for undergraduate admission into CSUSB • Admission requirements: at least 18 years of age and high school graduate or approval of IEP • Successful completion of the Intensive English Program does not guarantee CSUSB admission.
TESOL Certificate Programs [120-Hour TESOL Certificate Program] This introductory certificate program is designed for individuals who have little teaching experience and at least an intermediate level of English proficiency and who are interested in teaching English as a Foreign Language. Our comprehensive curriculum covers the following areas: • Teaching methodology in speaking, listening, reading and writing • Language development and acquisition • Fundamentals of English grammar • Linguistics for teachers • Innovative approaches to teaching • Practicum [Advanced TESOL Certificate Program] This advanced certificate program is designed for individuals who have some teaching experience and at least an upper intermediate level of English proficiency and who are interested in teaching English as a Second Language or Foreign Language. The certificate program is designed to emphasize practical applications of TESOL to enable participants to: • apply best practices in educational psychology to promote learning English; • teach English skillfully, employing a variety of principle-based methods; • select and develop successful materials in EFL/ESL; • demonstrate understanding of the structure of English; • relate the importance of the native and target cultures in language learning. [TESOL for Moms and Dads—Teach Your Child the English Language] This online course is designed to help parents and educators tutor young learners. Participants in this course will earn a TESOL certificate. Each participant is provided with research, background knowledge, and practical skills on how to teach the English language and improve learning comprehension. Participants will become knowledgeable about the education process and learn how to use various study tools to best accommodate individual learners. The course consists of seven modules in which parents and educators engage in critical thinking exercises, interact with each other through discussion board questions, and implement TESOL activities with their child or tutee. Participants in the course will: • Identify different approaches in education and how they affect individual learning. • Choose learning activities based on individual skills and abilities. • Assess individual interactions in the learning process. • Create a positive learning environment and heightened student interest in learning English. [TESOL Certificate for Teaching Young Learners] Participants in this online course will earn a TESOL certificate for teaching young learners. The participants are provided with best practice teaching research, as well as activities and strategies on how to teach the English language to young learners who speak other languages. Participants learn about the theory behind teaching English to young learners, and they are able to identify the skills needed for young learners to develop proficient reading, writing, listening and speaking abilities in English. The course is comprised of ten modules in which different teaching strategies are discussed, and participants will have the opportunity to share ideas and learning experiences with each other. Participants in the course will: • Reflect on teaching methods, classroom routines, and what research says about teaching English to young learners. • Interact through online discussions with other students by sharing their ideas and experiences in teaching English to young learners. • Collect teaching materials that are effective when teaching English to young learners. • Watch a series of videos that illustrate different teaching strategies that have been effective in a real classroom. • Learn about different teaching materials and techniques that can be used with young learners when teaching them the English language.
University Study in USA This program offers an excellent opportunity for international students to broaden their academic experience by studying on a campus of one of the largest university systems in the U.S., the California State University system. Our campus, California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) offers more than 70 undergraduate and graduate degrees and students can choose from a wide range of courses to enhance their academic credentials. The program allows students to choose available university credit-bearing courses at undergraduate level to fulfill prerequisites, degree or elective requirements. Academic credits earned at CSUSB may be transferred to students' home institutions. Students can enroll in 10, 20 or 30 weeks of instruction at undergraduate level with 12 units of credit per quarter. Minimum requirements: TOEFL score of 500 (173 computer-based, 61 Internet-based) or IELTS 5.5.
