GENY is registered as a Private Business School and is approved by the New York State Department of Education. It is authorized under federal laws to accept non-immigrant students. GENY traces its origins to 1995 when it was founded as a computer training school. It has evolved into a teaching institution that serves the needs of a broad range of students, offering programs in practical ESL (English as a Second Language), Accounting, Nursing, Fashion Design, IT Support, Web Design, and other emerging popular fields of study. The school is ideally located at the heart of the cultural, financial, and economic center of the world, with easy access to the capital of high finance, Wall Street, trendy Fashion Avenue, Chinatown, art galleries, and museums, as well as restaurants and nightlife to please the appetites of all comers. ESL program (Total Hours: 900) Each level is 300 hours - Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Levels This program is designed to enhance students’ ability to read, write, and speak English, primarily by boosting their grammar, vocabulary, and confidence level. Our classes incorporate content that’s based on daily life experiences, including those encountered on visits to places such as supermarkets, pharmacies, post offices, and restaurants. The sophistication and difficulty of content increase as students progress through the ESL program. Each level of GENY's ESL program is designed to improve a student's English speaking skills while meeting certain grammatical, reading, writing, and listening requirements that prepare him or her for the next level. Generally, students stay in a level for 12 weeks, after which they are given a final exam and elevated to the next level.Students are treated on an individual basis, however, and there will be students who need to spend more (or less) time in any given level. English Speaking and Listening (Total Hours: 75) This course is designed to help students improve their daily communication skills in social settings. Students will demonstrate English language use at a level closer to that of native speakers upon completion of the course. Student Activites Students at GENY have the opportunity to participate in after-class activities that are socially enriching and educationally rewarding. We offer a variety of student activities every month, such as visits to musems, holiday parties and weekend camping trips. Students can meet and socialize with other students which gives them a chance to practice and improve their English. Private Tutoring Services Learn what you need when you need it! GENY provides private English tutoring. Our highly experienced and qualified English teachers and tutors use proven methods to help you learn English. We have a wide range of courses which include practical English, academic writing, and business English. Each will be customized to your individual needs. We will check your progress on a regular basis in order to make certain that you are progressing at a rapid pace.
TOEFL Prep. (Duration: 150 hours) GENY's TOEFL iBT Preparation Program is for advanced English language students and for those who have already taken the TOEFL iBT and wish to improve their scores. Our course is taught only by experienced teachers who have helped many foreign English language students achieve success on the TOEFL iBT. When students complete this program, they will have acquired both a greater understanding of the TOEFL iBT itself and stronger academic skills, which they will need for American colleges and universities. Our program focuses on every area of the TOEFL iBT, especially the speaking and writing sections where students will learn and practice our proven test formats and strategies. TOEFL iBT vocabulary is also stressed throughout the course along with an ample amount of class time dedicated to practicing the other sections on the test. There is a complete TOEFL iBT pre-test and a post-test included in the course along with ten mini tests, so that students can see their progress during the course. We have also included five mini vocabulary tests and a final vocabulary test because we understand how critical TOEFL iBT vocabulary is for our students both on the test and in their future academic studies in the United States. Aside from our dynamic classroom activities, students also have the opportunity to practice writing TOEFL iBT essays and practice the TOEFL iBT speaking questions throughout the course, all of which are graded by our experienced teachers. In addition , our computer labs include additional TOEFL iBT reading and listening exercises that students can utilize during workshop hours. All in all, we are confident that foreign English language students who apply themselves to our TOEFL iBT program will achieve their goals.
IELTS Prep. (Duration: 200 hours) Administered by the British Council and University of Cambridge, the IELTS examination is required by a growing number of post-secondary institutions as a qualification for entry to degree or diploma programs. The IELTS test includes writing essays, reading skills such as skimming and scanning, note taking and listening for meaning or specific information. This course is designed to improve student scores on the IELTS exam and is open to upper intermediate and advanced students. It is a combination of skill-building and test-taking strategies. We look at all four modules of the test: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Speaking, however, is emphasized in all four modules through discussion of the material; students are strongly encouraged to express their opinions and support their arguments with reasons. Each week focuses on a different topic relevant to the test, such as the environment, healthcare, crime, and culture. In addition to test questions, teachers provide authentic material such as articles, essays, and excerpts from radio shows to build vocabulary and listening Skills as well as to hone analytical skills. Developing analytical and argumentative skills is key to getting a good score and is therefore an integral part of the course. A placement test is required to determine if you are ready for this program.
