Our mission is to give expression to the ideals of Notre Dame and the School Sisters of Notre Dame through an ethic of care and respect for each person, excellence in programming, and a variety of cross-cultural experiences that foster global community. We provide a quality, intensive English language program for non-native speakers that meets the diverse learning needs of students who plan to study in American colleges and universities or are studying for career enrichment. Located in the lower level of Meletia Hall in the Feeley International Center, Room 016, the main office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Intensive English Program The English Language Institute is an intensive English program (IEP) for women and men from around the world. Most of our students come to study English full time. After studying in the ELI, students move on to undergraduate studies, graduate studies and careers. Although ELI students come from all over the world speaking different languages, together they form a community that makes the ELI experience unique. In each session, there are students from 20-25 different countries. This diversity helps students to learn English and use it in and out of the classroom. Our experienced and caring faculty and staff take an interest in helping each student to achieve his or her professional and personal goals. At the English Language Institute, the students show how the world can live and learn together. Wherever you go after ELI, you will have lifetime friends to take with you. At the ELI, full-time students are in class 24–25 hours a week. Part-time students may take up to 3 courses depending on their visa type. U.S. residents may study full or part time. In eight-week sessions, students from “high beginner” to “advanced” study writing, grammar, reading, listening and speaking, pronunciation, vocabulary, TOEFL preparation and American culture. Students are placed in the appropriate level based on their placement test scores obtained at the beginning of the session. English is used at all times in the classroom. The average class size is 10-12 students.
