ESL Program [ENGLISH 83 PROGRAM] Students are required to take the appropriate core curriculum assigned according to their skill levels.
ㆍEnglish 83 - Beginning English Language Development Prerequisites: Credit in English 82 or placement based on the CELSA, a writing sample, and an oral interview. This course is designed for students of all foreign backgrounds and abilities in English to work on such problems as pronunciation, vocabulary, sentence patterns, conversation practices, reading, and writing.
ㆍEnglish 86d, English as a Second Language (ESL) Laboratory is to be taken concurrently with English 83. This course is an individualized ESL laboratory. Audio-visual materials, tutoring, and small-group instruction are available to aid students in developing language proficiency. [ENGLISH 84 PROGRAM] Students are required to take the appropriate core curriculum assigned according to their skill levels.
ㆍEnglish 84 - Intermediate English Language Development Prerequisites: Credit in English 83 or placement based on the CELSA, a writing sample, and an oral interview. ㆍEnglish 85 - Advanced English Language Development Prerequisites: Credit in English 84 or placement based on the CELSA, a writing sample, and an oral interview. English 85 is a two-part course in advanced ESL: a review of functional English Grammar and basic sentence patterns, including frequent practice in both written and spoken expression; and instruction in reading comprehension skills, including frequent practice in systematic reading and analysis.
ㆍEnglish 86f, English as a Second Language (ESL) Laboratory is to be taken concurrently with English 85. This course is an individualized ESL laboratory. Audio-visual materials, tutoring, and small-groupinstruction are available to aid students in developing language proficiency.
ㆍEnglish 70- Basic Writing Skills Prerequisites: None This course is designed for students needing skill development in writing paragraphs Emphasis is placed on writing clearly and correctly for a given purpose.
ㆍEnglish 73a - Writing Laboratory Prerequisites: None This course provides individualized writing practice in the paragraph and short essay for students of English 70.
